Does Verizon Wireless work?

Post by adsjayhawk »

Hi All,

I think I remember reading here, that Verizon works in someplaces but "pings" of of the BVI's for a signal ($$$$$). Has the coverage changed at all? Or should I go with a "Go Phone" from ATT?

Thanks

I was just there two weeks ago and it was spotty. I found that it worked in town (Cruz Bay) and on some of the north shore beaches and that was about it. We had a random signal up in Virgin Grand Estates and at Cruz Views. I kind of like having intermittent service since it's a nice escape but if you need for folks to reach you at all times, then, go for the Go phone.

My friend just left and she had Verizon - no service at all all week anywhere she went.

We were all over the island in May and did not have Verizon service anywhere.

I also left a few weeks ago and my Verizon worked fine. In Cruz Bay we stayed at Lavender and used it with no problems.

My husband has Verizon and he had service nearly everywhere we went on STJ. I have T-Mobile and only had service when we were close to Cruz Bay.

We just got back this weekend. We have verizon service. We got spotty service in Cruz Bay. Was surprised when my phone rang in Mongoose Junction, Sue Brandy calling to confirm our boat trip to the BVIs. As we drove out to towards the North Shore beaches I got a text that welcomed us to the British V.I. At that point I turned my phone off.

Hey,
I just got home from 7 days. Had coverage from somewhere around The Westin on the south side, in Cruz bay and around to around Trunk. After that you switch over to the BVI tower. I called customer service (twice to be sure) and found out that text messaging is the same rate as home, and calls are $1.99 a min. if you do not have international calling. If you switch over to the BVI tower the rate increases to their international rate - which is more. Just to be safe I never made any calls or answered any, just stuck with text. I was on vacation and didn't want to spend iton the phone anyway! Internet service did not work at all.
Hope this helps!

I had internet service on my crackberry most of the time, on the North Shore. Didn't use the phone because we were given the same price quote as drumbiker.... $1.99/minute. We brought a calling card and used it.
