Restaurants suggestions for larger groups

Post by Neeners »

Hello! We're going to St. John for the our third trip, but this will be the first with a group. There will be 8 of us. Can you suggest restaurants for groups of this size? I know some places might handle groups better than others. The location on St. John doesn't really matter to us, as we'll likely be exploring it all (again).

Thanks a bunch for your recommendations/suggestions. Five more sleeps!

I really like the Banana Deck for a larger group. Keep in mind though, they will close if it's raining or looks like it might rain.

Missing St. John. As always.

The Banana Deck is also good at large groups.

Call ahead everywhere to make life easier for your party and the restaurant, though.

8 is not bad at all. Just call ahead for reservations. RhumbLines, Lime Inn, Morgan's Mango, The Balcony, Banana Deck, ZoZo's, Waterfront Bistro, LaTapa should all be able to accommodate your group with reservations. Or you can just pull together two tables at Woody's.

Zozos is great and you can get reservations. Service is flawless. It is higher end.

Banana Deck handled our group of 7 no problem.

Ocean Grille (Mongoose Junction) is large and was very accomodating to us, nice guys, good food. Even had live music the night we were there. Great atmosphere.

Rhumblines is good for a group too. Great atmosphere too. Food tends to the spicy side, but they were very good about the people who didn't want hot.

We had 9 SOTB II'ers at Banana Deck (dinner), 8 in Woodys (late lunch) and 7 or 8 at at Shipwreck Landing - no reservations, no problems.

We also had a "call ahead" for Cafe Roma.

Shouldn't be a problem for your group at all.

Good to hear. We'll be seven in June. First time for more than just the four of us. Thanks for the info! Looks like Lime Inn for AYCE spicy garlicky shrimp on night of arrival!

Actually, you can have the all-you-can-eat shrimp at the Lime Inn spicy or plain. Each person can specify when they order and they serve it up according to preference. Plus, you're allowed to change your mind. If they bring you a pile of plain shrimp and you eat all that and then you want a pile of spicy shrimp next, you just let them know. Or vice versa. Whatever you want.

I just love The Lime Inn. (Try the pan-fried jerk-spiced snapper also. That's my favorite.)

Thanks Ruth! I didn't know that about the shrimp. I have it the same way every trip. I love the Lime Inn too! And Rich is such a nice guy. I will see you next month. I need some BB's Pepper Jelly and more CBGR! Thanks for the tip on the Snapper. Sounds good! Maybe I will branch out and try it LOL!

If you are just grown ups --- Another thing to consider is to split up at the restaurant into two tables of 4 -- that way it's no big deal and then the next night switch who you sat with.

Just a thought....

We were having dinner at Waterfront Bisto and they were handling a party of 24, so 8 should be a piece of cake for them.

Its on the pricey side, but if you are looking for an upscale dinner, I'd consider it.

Crazy Cracker has plenty of room upstairs and a good couples special on Saturday nights called "Dinner and a Movie". $30 gets you an app or salad, two entrees, two drinks, and a desert. While you're eating they show a current run flick on a projection screen. Pretty good price for St. John IMO. ZoZo's was awesome if you want upscale. THE BEST rib-eye I've ever had - and I will rarely order a steak in a restaurant. Calamari appetizer was well above average also.
Counting down the minutes.....
