Pat's surgery was at 2:00 yesterday. The wonderful news is she didn't lose the leg. They took most of her calf and the arch of her foot. She'll probably need a brace to walk. Her cancer was very invasive. She was in tremendous pain yesterday, the oxycontin and vicodin didn't help. They had her walk to the end of the hall last night. They were going to send her home today....unbelievable. Her leg started swelling and her doctor took her back into surgery to open the leg in four places to help the pressure. She will have additional surgery Friday to close those wounds and the plan is now to come home either Saturday or Sunday. She'll need chemo and radiation follow-up. A long road ahead but what a blessing to still have the leg and some function. Thank you so much for all of your prayers. I told Pat a lot of Forum people were thinking about her and she was amazed...."people I don't know are praying for me?". I told her that this Forum is not only about STJ but there are a lot of great people who support each other.

AH, I am tired but happy for Pat. We drove 3.5 hrs to Winston-Salem, sat for 6 and 3.5 back. Home around 11 and up for work at 6 am. We have a girls weekend each August in Black Mountain, NC and she won't be able to join us this year. She always looks forward to the trip. We'll just have to drink a margarita or 3 (her favorite)and talk smack about her!

Update on Pat
Thank you, thank you for all the prayers for Pat. Amazing what the power of prayer can do. She was prepared to lose her leg. Amazingly enough, after several hours of surgery they took most of her calf and the arch of her foot but didn't take her leg. Her oncology surgeon said that in 30 years he has only seen two cases (Pat's being the second) of a benign, highly aggressive tumor that eats into the blood supply of the leg. If she hadn't noticed it, it would have cut off the blood supply to her leg and they would have taken the leg. She is now out of work for 3 months, physical therapy daily, horrible skin graft that will take a long time to take, probable cosmetic surgery and a brace for the arch of her foot. This girl has just committed to 10 days on STJ in 8/2010! If there was ever a strong woman Pat's the one! Thanks again for listening to my post about my best friend!
