I haven't been for a few years but used to go a couple times a month (work.) Back then I would take the subway to Canal Street and go shopping at the little street vendors for knock-off purses, etc. Are those vendors still around? If so I bet the girls would enjoy that. They also might enjoy shopping in SoHo.

I had a great gal-pal trip there a few years ago. We stayed at the Royalton, which is very sleek and modern and in a great location near Times Square. I think the prices are pretty good for NY. We switched off having cheap eats for lunch then splurging on places like Tavern on the Green and Sardis.

Someone mentioned the Marriott Marquis. I've stayed there a few times and found it too big for my taste... it would take 15 minutes to get an elevator.

I think this is a great idea for a holiday trip!

Thanks for the info! I read that about the Marriott Marquis. That might be a little too in the middle of everything for my taste...and there are thousands of rooms. Too many tourists.

As the spouse of a former TCO employee, I am required to state that it's Tiffany and Co. Not Tiffany's. There's no girl with huge hair who owns the place.

Thank you, move along

Get a sandwich at the Carnegie Deli and all 4 of you will be able to eat for the price of 1! Its near the Letterman Show too.

I LOVE NYC. My hubby hates it. Too many times being drug with the city with his family as a child.

My mom often goes on group tours around the holidays and absolutely loves it and she's not a big traveller or crowd girl. She typically stays at the Hotel Pennsylvania. VERY basic but in the heart of everything.

Glad I could help. Seriously, with enough planning, you can scope out lots of great things to do that won't cost you an arm and a leg. Oh, and those boots were THE BEST. Stylish yet all day walkable...important for a girl who refuses to give up fashion for comfort!

A change of plans may be in order. I think I may be taking my youngest over Spring Break, instead of all of us over Christmas. It seems when you get to be 21, the family is the last priority.

I can't say that about my 21 year old. He is always trying to get me to come along with him. I get to pick and choose now where I go Next year it is England and 2011 Austraila. She might change her mind hang in the Cyp.

To get Letterman tickets, submit your name on their website. If you get picked, someone will call you and you have to correctly answer a trivia question to get the tickets.
And believe me, the trivia question asked will be an easy one judging from the one we were asked. If you do score tickets to Letterman, be sure to wear something warm for the studio. It was freezing in there!

On the Broadway ticket search, if you find the show you want to see, check with the theatre. Some theatres on certain days of the week will run specials. Some you have to wait in line outside the theatre to get the specials. I believe that tuesdays or wednesdays had the best bargains.

Yeah, well her idea of going to NY is to sleep til noon and party all night. That's fine if you're paying your own way, but her dad (who is paying for every cent) and the rest of us, want to see the city. Is it all right to say I can't stand that kid right now? :x

Say it loud and proud, just because you love them doesn't mean you like them! Here's what we got over the weekend. The 21 year old is overseas this semester into the summer. She finally danes to answer the cell phone. So how are things. Fine she says, I moved from the rooming house I was staying in... Really where are you living now ( would be nice to know in case we needed to find her) " Steve and I are living together"... Steve, the guy who a few weeks ago she wasn't sure she really liked.

I wanted to get on a plane and haul her A$# back here, my husband counsels patience. I say if she's old enough to cohabitat then she is old enough to support herself. We are still discussing that part.

Like I said, don't get me started on 21 year olds!

We're in a different, but very similar situation. The 21 year old wants to come home this summer. I know darn good and well it's not because she misses us. It's because Lubbock Texas is BORING and the bars and friends in Houston are so much more fun. After all, she's 21!! So she comes home the first week of May, her room looks like a bomb went off, she has not done one stich of laundry, she has spent all of 3 nights at home. Last Fri. morning she leaves to go to the lake with friends and says they'll be back Sat. morning. She showed up Mon. around 4:00 pm, ate dinner, and then wanted to "go out" again. We told her we wanted her to stay home for the night. She said she's living in a prison. Of course we're paying for the house in Lubbock, all her utilities, all her car expenses, etc. Her dad is finally tired of seeing me cry because of her, so he's going to take away the purse strings. I've been saying that for years, but he's too soft. If she passes her physical, she'll finally start her summer job next week. I hope they work her to death.

Oh, and the thing that really pisses me off??........she screens our calls and texts.

Oh man... am I ever glad we chose not to have kids! Cats never put you through that kind of shit. However, I suspect they may be screening our calls while we're at work.

I know, I hate that, and you just know they are doing it, do they think we are idiots. I see how they never miss the opportunity to take a call from a frined, but our calls always, somehow wind up in wireless limbo. Funny how that happens no matter which carrier they use and which phone they have... funny how that works! But Im just the WSM (wicked step Mom)
They take thier mother's calls because she will call back repeatedly every two seconds untill they pick up,so she has taiught them the consequence for not answering the phone :-)

Be strong Deb, cutting off the money train may just be the best thing you ever do you her.
