First Timers - Sadly No Longer Arriving Today !

Post by Drumbiker »

:x This morning just started off rotten. Julie was running late and couldn't find her credit card and ID, really stressing us out. Tore the house apart. Finally had to leave the house with just her passport, couldn't find the drivers license. Got to the airport and as usual, I couldn't make it through security without having to be practically strip searched. Then, me being the genius that I am pulled a great one. I forgot that when I took some items out of my checked bag to lighten it up a bit I put them in my carry on, resulting in a bag search. Ooops. The two beers from the local brewery I was bringing for the folks at The Tap Room are now probably being enjoyed by TSA agents. Finally we boarded the plane, settled in and were ready to get underway. Then the door on the plane wouldn't shut. For an hour. Then they "de-planed" us. Next - as luck would have it - no flights could get us to our connecting flight in D.C. We are now back at home with new plane tickets for tomorrow, and I'm scrambling to change our villa and jeep reservations. If something goes amiss tomorrow, you may be reading about me in the newspaper!! Our new flight gets in at 3:15 Sunday, hope to see you all at TBB - maybe....

What a drag!

I'm a firm believer that you can re-route me by way of the moon or cancel flights or have weird mechanical problems when I'm returning from vacation, but dagnabit, I want to arrive when I was scheduled to arrive.

I feel so bad for you. It can only look up from here, right?

OK  --- Take a deep breath. -----Take another deep breath. :( ---- Now, think about sitting back at the Beach Bar with your beverage of choice. :) Do you see all those Forumites enjoying the scene with you? :D

It's OK. Although delayed, this is going to be a great week for both Julie and you. 8)

Take the rest of today to get on Island Time, find all the missing items, replace the beer, and get a good nights rest tonight.

Did you get any photos today to include in your trip report?

I didn't think anyone would be interested in photos of one of the most drab airports I've ever seen (Cleveland Hopkins), airplane seat-backs (in the upright position, with tray tables stowed, of course), and a couple of very sour pusses!

Things are lookin up already though! I just got off the phone with Jane from Charming Hideaways and our Villa was free for Sunday! She's also rescheduling the Jeep rental for us. And, on the even brighter side, although we will be arriving an hour and 45 minutes later than the original flight - our rescheduled return flight leaves two hours later!! We just gained an extra 15 minutes on STJ! :D

I believe it was the great Ron White that said "If live gives you lemons, make lemonade......and find someone that life gave vodka."

I'm so sorry, folks, about your set back. This is where that contingency plan comes in! Enjoy today as well as you can, and know that you'll be understanding the term "paradise" tomorrow!

What a DRAG! Well, at least now Julie will have time to find her drivers license! Once you get to the island, all your troubles will fade away. This will be a story to tell your kids! "Let me tell you about when mom & dad went to get married...." LOL!

Same thing happened to us. We boarded our flight in DC, sat on the runway for 2.5 hours and missed the connection to St. Thomas in Charlotte, so had to fly out the next morning. We lost 1 night in the villa in St. John plus the cost of the overnight at the airport. Very frustrating!!!!

Oh my, bummer! I feel bad for you. All of that stress from today will melt away once you get on those beautiful beaches.

Enjoy, have a safe and troublefree travel day tomorrow.

The mystery of the missing license and credit card has been solved. It seems some butthead - whose name rhymes with JULIE- packed them in the checked luggage. And lucky for us - we were able to tell the story to her boys this morning. One thing we don't want is to wait for another pair to grow up!!!!!

At such moments I try to reflect on a quote from Kurt Vonnegut:
