That would be Van Gogh - he looks really bad in that picture :( he usually is a "prettier" cat - not by much but prettier all the same.

Thanks Pia, that is a relief...he looked really battered and sad.
I knew it wasn't "Buster"; I haven't seen "Van Gogh"...perhaps just as well. Hope the bad no longer comes his way.

I've posted before about an amazing cat we met in 2004 in Pastory. We absolutely fell in love with him. We were staying in a condo, and the condo owner was staying just around the other side of the building. There were a bunch of steps up to the second story front door of our condo, and we asked the owner if the cat ever made the trip up to see him. He said no, that he wasn’t familiar with the cat. But somehow the cat figured out that we were cat people and he’d come by for a visit every night around 8 pm. We’d hear him at the screen door, always "meow, meow" (including the very first time he came to visit) and we’d let him in to hang out with us for a couple hours. He was a WONDERFUL cat. He was very loving and sweet. I have lots of pictures of him, but that was before we had a digital camera so I can’t easily post any.

There were a few other cats that lived nearby, and the entire trip we never once saw any of the them (including our buddy) when it was daylight. They always hid during the heat of the day. We’d even try to call our cat friend and he would never come out during the day. Then on our last night, our trusty friend came by at 8 pm and I told him that he shouldn’t come the next night because we wouldn’t be there anymore. I told him that we were going to leave at 9 am the next day. And amazingly, who showed up at 8:55 am to show us off the next day but our special kitty friend!! He made his first daytime appearance to say goodbye.

I was devastated to have to leave him. I don’t know if he had an "owner," but leaving him was incredibly difficult. That was only our second trip to St. John so I didn't know what to do to help him, but now that I'm familiar with the ACC I would definitely do something for him.

In 2006 we met a sweet black kitty who "lived" at Hawksbill...she'd be waiting for us in the tree by the front every night when we got back from the beach. I fed her twice daily while we were there and left a supply of cat food when we left...she was such a sweet cat. She really enjoyed sunbathing with my husband out on the deck. This is her:

It is interesting how so many of the kitties do look alike-often that triangular face... forgot to mention but we even had a buddy on St. Thomas at the Mafolie Hotel-they have Tripod-a black 3 legged cat there (along with several others-but he hung out by the office). Don't forget if you appreciate the animal friends you make on St. John to stop in to the Animal Care Center http://www.stjohnanimalcarecenter.com/index.php
and if possible give a donation-it will be a big help! :)

On our trip in 2004, there was a dog that used to come, we think, every time he smelled the grill at our villa - we stayed at Sunset Pointe on Gift Hill, right at the "fork in the road". I don't think its rented any more. Anyway - he belonged to someone - we don't know who - but he was such a sweet dog. Since his collar didn't have a name tag on it, we coined him "Red Stripe" - for the red collar.

Sam (aka Dickhead) is still at Cruz Views. He's a crooked eye cat but we love him. I have a photo of him and Ron taking a nap together on the couch in #10 on Friday. I'll try to post it later. Great cat!

Good to hear he still getting along. He was looking a bit rough in March.

Dickhead (aka by me Cross eyed Kitty) gets my vote. I loved that cat. So glad to hear he is still hanging around.
