wheelchair accessible ferry/island
wheelchair accessible ferry/island
I need your help - I am planning a trip next February to celebrate my husband's 60th birthday - the villa is booked, the tickets are purchased (great price) now to plan something fun - the fact that he uses a wheelchair makes planning in advance necessary-so here's where I need the help - is the ferry to the BVI's wheelchair accessible - are they all the same boat - are any of the islands more accessible/user friendly - we would want to go someplace where we could sit by the water and drink; I mean eat lunch maybe buy a t-shirt or 2 - others in the group would want to swim and/or snorkel - any suggestions of places to go - or not go? - he is able to stand to transfer himself and can get up a step or 2 - thanks, samoka
Is it STJ that you're going to? Have you been there before? If your hubby can transfer and stand briefly and take a step or two with assistance I'd say he can probably manage OK. There are lots of restaurants that you could do in a wheelchair on STJ and others that probably would not be doable.
If I was in a wheelchair myself I wouldn't let that stop me from having a wonderful time in STJ
. I can't think of a better place to spend a 60th birthday than STJ.

I can't offer a lot of help, but I will tell you that I recently noticed that Chelsea drug store offers rental of a beach wheelchair. If you are interested, you should set it up ahead of time. They transfer it back and forth from their STT and STJ locations. I think they said it was $60 a day, but am not positive. You can call them at 340-776-4888. Hope you guys have a great time!
Thanks for the info - we are going to STJ - I have that all worked out - we will rent a car on STT - we will get in the car - barge to STJ and on to villa - the questions I have regard the ferries to the BVIs - are any of them accessible? are any of the island more/less accessible than others - thanks, Diane
