Horseback riding on St John?

Post by snorkelqueen »

This year we'd like to horseback ride while on island. Any suggestions?
p.s. I may be snorkelqueen - but I am most certainly NOT Annie Oakley! :(

Call Dana at Carolina Coral in Coral Bay. 340-643-5369 I remember RickG's daughters loving this, maybe Rick will chime in? Dana is a friend of mine, and I have yet to go on a ride, though my fault. Give her a call before arriving.

Dana's is the only operation I know of on island. They are located just past Skinny's (or at least they were a few years ago), when the road turns hard left, you take the dirt road hard right.

She runs a good shop, but like so many things there, runs on island time. SO, it's probably not best to plan to meet someone somewhere right after the ride - you probably won't be done when you think you will be.

It can be a very hot, sunny ride, so take plenty of water and wear your sunscreen. My favorite ride is the last one of the afternoon (returning to the barn around 4 or 5 I think). The light at the top of the hill is gorgeous and provides for really great pics of the East End.

If you're not Annie Oakley, remember to trust the horses. They do this all day every day and really do know what they're doing.

Enjoy!
Jennifer

Anybody know how much this costs? Sounds like fun.

Forget the horses...right where you turn right to go to the stable is where the donkeys hang out. Yeehaa.
