Idea for father's day gift....
I made the mistake of booking a trip to STJ in June with my baby girl (17 then), without realizing I'll be gone for Father's Day. Can anyone offer any great ideas for a gift, besides the same old shirt, tie, blah, blah, blah. I was thinking about something from STJ like a great picture for his new office downtown, but I know it needs to look professional and not like a travel agency, or too girly. Any ideas?? I feel so guilty, but he doesn't seem to mind. Maybe that's a bad sign.
It doesn't have to be from STJ. I can buy it here and leave it for him. I just need a creative idea. PG-13 please, since it's from the girls too.

Here's what I'd like:
1. Hook Bracelet from STJ (palm jewelers)
2. Picture of you and your daughter posed in front of a fabulous beach/water STJ scene. Framed and ready for display on his office desk.
3. Money and an invitation to enjoy his favorite hobby while you are gone. I'd LOVE my wife to put a $50 in a card (or Gift Certificate from my favorite course) to pre-pay my golf greens fees and write a note hoping I'll enjoy my round.
4. Similarly - A Gift Certificate to a great Steakhouse (I'd never splurge on myself while she's gone) with a handwritten note.
I'm sure you'll do something he'll really appreciate!

If you are going to run with the photo idea, these guys do impressive work on gallery wrapped canvas print enlargements:

Consider it for your best STJ (or other) shot.

Cyp, like I told you, these guys (husbands) are not our fathers, they are our children's fathers. Okay, well a little guilt I guess since we're taking one of their children away with us. I'd say the kids not going are responsible for making it a special day. My Dad will be real happy with a new t-shirt from Corsairs. Me bad. Ali~
STJ - I "get it"
Absolute truth:
When our children were babies, my wife actually told me OUT LOUD that she is not my mother and that I shouldn't get her anything for Mother's Day. That changed significantly over the years. I get why - the kid's cannot drive to the store and they don't have any money. I wouldn't even DREAM of not getting her something now. She's still not my mother, but she's a fantastic mother to my children - goodness knows the least I can do is recognize that with a card and small gift!

Is he a coffee drinker?
These are awesome and if you don't want to overspend on their single serving tubs of coffee you can get a single serving basket and dose it with your own coffee.
I love these things when you just want a cup and it truly is the best coffee I've ever brewed at home.
Here is a great and affordable unit.

Hi Wakey
Do you have the keurig ?? I ask because I have a question - can you use a filter and your own ground coffee - the reason I ask is.......
1) I might not be able to get pods here (actually probably can't)
2) My friend owns a restaurant and ship's me 10lbs of coffee at a time........... for free so would love to be able to still use her blend from the restaurant
I kbnow so makes of single serve machines allow you to do this but I couldn't find it in the info on the page.
Thanks in advance

A nice gift may be to buy a small, but fairly thick leather photobook, create a sweet message to put on the first page, then add photos of your husband with his daughters from birth to present. You could add captions or include some favorite things your daughters used to say when they were little, or some other things that are special. Leave some pages at the end to add to in the future. Wrap and leave a note telling him how much you wish he were with you, but that by having your daughter on St. John with you his heart is always with you all. Snapfish, Shutterfly, etc. also have templates that you could use to make your own book.
