last minute question

Post by nancyg »

Hi,

We are leaving in the morning and I am packing right now. We never lock our carry on bag and I was wondering if they take your bags on the ferry or if they stay with you on ferry over to STJ. We won't have any large bags, just carry on and snorkel bag. If the bags do not stay with us then I want to bring luggage locks.

Thanks
Nancy

They have always let me carry my little carry-on bag with me and they take the big bag. They want to handle it, but I just let them know not this one. So far (5 trips in past 3 years), they have always let me carry my little bag. It has been a little duffle, so maybe they have a size limit? Maybe one of the locals can give us a better idea.

I always keep my tote with me, but they always take the wheeled carry on. I've tried to keep it with me, but they always take it. I never lock anything. I really don't think you have to worry about the ferry guys going through your bags. All the non-replaceable stuff is in my tote, like passport, $$, jewlery, makeup.

If they consider it not to be a carry on, then they will take it from you but no worries you can see it at all times it is never out of sight (Unless you sit up stairs) :)

Thanks everyone.

I am almost done packing.

Pia, hopefully our paths will cross sometime this week. I would like to meet you. I am going to try to make it to the beach bar on Sunday, but not sure. Will all depend on if flights are on time and then we have to get to the villa in coral bay. I hope we can make it.

Our weather really sucks right now, it was 85 yesterday and now in the 60's and rain all day. I can't wait to get to STJ tomorrow

They pile the larger bags in a precarious heap at the back of the CA ferry.

You cant tell from this picture, but there are some open parts of the ship walls and I was sure that my suitcase was going to go sliding out the hole into the ocean, but it survived the journey.

Duck tape & Rum. The duck tape for the teen so after the 2nd day of I'm board you have some type of restraint. And the rum for you, for all the obvious reasons!
Sawed that board three times and it is still too short...

Just use common sense and keep anything of value with you! The ferry trip back to STT was so packed and chaotic last year that we could not keep our carry-on bags with us. On our flight home, I realized that my Ipod was stolen from my bag on the ferry. It was a double blow because my new digital camera got "lost" when the car rental agency swapped our car out. Needless to say it was an expensive lesson learned and I will be traveling extremely light during our trip down next month.
