"The Beach Villa" Donald Schnell---any info??
Okay, long story short. Trying to plan a trip with 2 other families with LOTS of small children. Family A is going to be in 3rd trimester when we travel in June and wants room service, kids club, etc, etc. They are fine with the Westin. Family B is similar to us, that they like villas and like to explore, except for one thing--they want to be on a beach! ha! didn't think I could find anything in St. John, so I have been looking at other islands, i.e. Great Exuma. Anyhoo, I would still love for us all to travel together in St. John, as our family would like to continue our stay for another 3 weeks. I came across this villa that is close to the Westin where Family A is, so Family B and us could share the villa and still be close to the Westin. There are no reviews of this villa that I can find. Any input??
Beach Villa
Beautiful villa in a nice spot but I dont believe they accept children under 12 yrs old. I could be wrong. Gull Cottage and Splash are right in the same area, as is Villa Villekula.
Although Beach Villa is on a beach, I wouldnt really want to swim there. It is not as well groomed as is the Westin, and is rocky in some of the areas on that beach. Also, the low lying houses there can get pretty buggy in the spring and summer, as there are no real breezes. We have stayed in that area once, and for those reasons I would not stay in that area along the beach again.
They spray for bugs over at the Westin and although the beach is manmade, it is well groomed so this is not a problem.

We stayed at Splash and LOVED it. One thing though.
If there are very small children:
The gate to the pool didn't latch. It may have been fixed though.
There is also just a ledge on one side of the pool (no gate). This is important to know since the pool is inside the house. A toddler could crawl right over it. So you need to think about the middle of the night if the kid gets up, etc....
Also the pool is EXTREMELY deep. Meaning even an adult cannot stand up in it. It has a ledge, but if children are not great swimmers...not a good villa choice. AT ALL. It would be very difficult to rescue a kid in this pool if, God forbid, they were at the bottom.
When my kids were "OK" swimmers, I liked for them to have the bottom of the pool to "bounce" off of.
I would say a good villa for kids 6-7 and over. Just my opinion. Depends on their swimming ability.
It is a great choice if you have friends at the Westin. You can literally walk over there in the water from the house. It is not a "beach" though....although the Westin of course has a beach.
Also personally, just don't think that beach is the best of St. John. So great place to stay but I would not consider it a substitute for St. John beaches.

"Sponges grow in the ocean...I wonder how much deeper it would be if that didn't happen."
