Swell Forecasts?
I was wondering what resources are available to find out swell forecasts/conditions? Is there a website that you all use? Seems like it would be helpful to know this info on deciding what beaches to head to or when to rent a dinghy. Thanks for your help.

I forget who on this forum first posted this site and I hope they'll forgive me for forgetting, but above is the site for a NOAA buoy that registers wave height and if you click on the little chart icon to the left of the topic you will get a chart in 12 hour intervals. The buoy is north of the BVIs and I'm not sure of the delay between report and arrival on STJ. If I recall it is about 8 hrs.

If you're talking St. John, the north beaches are not totally exposed to the atlantic swells, but if the swell gets big it can wrap around the blocking islands (like Jost and Tortola) and allow some waves on STJ. We surf at Rincon, PR during our non-STJ vacations, and here are some web sites that can give you an indication of swell size that might hit STJ:
http://magicseaweed.com/Cane-Garden-Bay ... eport/480/ (Tortola surf)
http://www.swellinfo.com/surf-forecast/ ... -rico.html (Rincon surf)
have fun!

Hi Chet.....I just started using Swell Info a few weeks ago, we surf in NH, had always used Magic Seaweed....I like the chart that Micah uses, very easy to read. I'm sure you got a PhD dissertation if it was Micah?
I just need to know when the waves will hit, not necessarily all the science behind it!
