It’s a wrap:
It was our best and longest trip ever – 12 nights.
It was the first time we’ve ever flown direct – AA from Logan – and I don’t want to fly any other way again. but, of course, I will if I have to.
We packed carryon and 1 checked bag. If the checked bag hadn’t made it to STT Mr H. would have been going commando. We’re all thankful that the bag arrived when we did
What I didn’t bring but wish I had.... a small soft sided cooler with some foods/marinades from home. Not that they didn’t have what we wanted.. but I do have some favorite Whole Foods marinades that please the picky eaters and they would have been nice to have on hand.
Sometimes if you drop off laundry at Super Wash in Cruz Bay you will get not only all of your own socks returned, but someone else’s as well.
Cool and Rainy weather is nice for hiking the Ram Head Trail.
12 nights really let’s you get into the groove of Island Time. I was much more relaxed about getting to the beach on this trip. I didn’t force the Jeep off the road to get to the beach on the first day. There was that $928 trip to Starfish, instead.
We did more hiking (meaning some hiking) than ever. We missed the Reef Bay Hike led by the parks dept. because we didn’t reserve early enough. When we called on 3/20 they were booked until 3/30. Also, they advised against Tevas, which were the only things I had that resembled hiking footwear.
We received the Liquid Image Video Camera mask for Christmas. We don’t have an underwater housing for our camera so this worked really well.! The photos aren’t award winning, but it is very cool that we have underwater photos – and video- to help us remember the trip (as if the $11K Visa bill weren’t enough)
We loved Luna Vista! The owner’s are wonderful, the pets are adorable, and I felt really safe there. (There were some villas break ins while we were on island. Some ocurred while the renters were home and awake.)
The pool was too cool to use because the breezes up there were phenomenal! I think it would be comfortable in the summer at that altitude. There was A/C in both bedrooms, but we never needed it. We even slept with a blanket
The beauty of Trunk Bay never ceases to amaze me.
We never went to see Innervisions. We could hear them a little bit from Luna Vista
Mr. H. banned Classic Rock in favor of “The Required Reggae” hour(s) on the radio.
We went looking for “Yoga with Beth” on Seagrape Hill, but never did find it. The ride to the top was enlightening though.
Most donkey sightings – Coral Bay Yacht Club.
You need an Amex Black card to buy a Smoothie at the smoothie stand.
A cheeseburger at Trunk Bay is not nearly as good without a frozen Pina Colada.
We did minimal shopping. I love what Ruth and Ron have done with St John Spice, too. Ruth has got some really nice clothing in there. I often see her wearing it on her “boat days”.
I was also able to get a St John Onesie, required attire for every newborn on the best dressed list, and a stuffed spotted eagle ray as a memento of our trip.
Three males went diving. 1 was certified, 1 wants to get certified., 1 said “Give me Terra Firma, or Give Me Death”.
You can spend well over $100 for a beachside lunch at Caneel. For a salad, 2 sandwiches and a kids meal. Oh yes – and a frozen daiquiri.
It will take 2 hours for you to place the order, receive the order, and pay for it. You won’t have a copy of the bill, so you won’t know if the gratuity was included. You won’t want to appear cheap, so you’ll add 20% to the bill as a tip for the guy who let you chase him around the property for 45 minutes in order to place said lunch order. The next time I’m bringing an invisible fence collar.
You’ll say – “it’s vacation dollars. Those are completely different.” (When else would you pay $75 for a smoothie).
My brother in law was a perfect vacation guest. I knew he would get it, and he did. I just wish he had gotten it about two hours earlier each day.
After 13 truly wonderful days we were ready to come home. We agreed that the trip had been exceptional, and that we'd done and seen most everything we wanted. We were sated. At least for a little while

loria - it's true - you really do get a chance to relax. 2 weeks is perfect! Last summer we took 2 weeks off and spent one week on the lake in Damariscotta and the second week at home (going to the beach etc) It was wonderful.
