Have you been censored?

Post by aroobagirl »

Seems like the Bongo Boys don't appreciate my snarky comment about Jeffrey Epstein, owner of Little St. James Island (I insinuated that he is a pig). I also made another comment about the quality of bedding at one of the North Shore villas which they reviewed only to have it not post.
Anyone else experienced their comments not posting on their site? Don't get me wrong, I really like them and their site, I just don't think either of my comments were terribly radical.

I could see them not publishing your villa coments because those villas are advertisers on there site. How long do you thing they would have any advertisers if they ran down there properties

I think a review is an opportunity for the owners to change things renters don't like. The renters are paying a lot of money for their vacations. Not every review is going to be positive. I think you have to be careful how you word things so as not to come off "bitchy" though...
That being said, an opinion is just that. They should not be censoring you.

I don't really have an issue with them not posting things. It is their blog and they have the option to keep the tone the way they want.

I think that if I was a villa owner and I paid them to talk about my villa, I would expect that the blog owner keep the comments on a positive note so that I could direct people to the site.

I do agree that Epstein is a pig, though!

Their blog is a buisness venture you do what you have to make money. Now if it was a site asking for reviews and they censored it that would be different.

That's why I love this forum - getting different perspectives! It never occurred to meet that this is a forum and that is a blog. DOH!
I must say I was crestfallen to learn that such a beautiful gem as Little St. James is owned by such a crud! I hope the affected families sue and he is forced to sell.

Not only is it a blog, but it's their business. They have advertisers and they don't want to bite the hand that feeds them. They make it pretty clear that they have advertisers, so it's not like they're trying to fool anyone.

If the potential of censored comments bothers you, then I'd say don't read their blog...just like you wouldn't patronize a business whose policies you don't care for...that's what the free market is all about, right? :)

I hope you keep making your "radical" comments though...
hopefully some of them will make it through

Well, let me just say I thought you were being nice about what you said about Jeffrey Epstein...Google and you'll see lots worse. Also, don't think you should've been censored about the bedding report. You can always post here if you haven't already.

Apologies and clarification in order.

Censored is when China blocks your Website.

Not so much when its a couple of guys who decide its not worth a $400 call to a lawyer to see if a comment is potentially slanderous, libelous or might otherwise put our modest necks on the line for the sake of a story about a plastic cow. Despite the disclaimer, we’re ultimately responsible for what’s said and read on the site. Also, we rarely, rarely, rarely 86 comments. We live for the comments after all!

As for villas that are advertised - all of which we visit in person before endorsing –any negative comment is forwarded to the owners, even if it’s not posted.

But they are also advertisements, not reviews, and we hope folks understand the difference.

As for Oprah, it just grew tiresome. Kidding Joshie. (That’s what I’m supposed to call you here, right?)

OK, just as long as we can call Epstein a pig on this forum.

We're big fans of the On STJ blog. It belongs to Russ and Jeff and they should do with it as they please.

For the record...I'm all in favor of deleting all references to Oprah...can't stand her.

As previously stated, I love the On-St. John site. My original post was seeking to understand. I completely understood not posting my comment about the bed linen at the upscale villa. I am an admitted linen snob! Nothing feels worse on a sunburn than sheets with a low thread count.
It was the comment about Jeffrey Epstein being cut that surprised me. Thinking about it, I guess the pig would feel slandered being compared to Epstein!
My apologies to the pig...
