Bad Back - any suggestions for massages or adjustments?
We have a newbie coming with us in May that has back issues. Anyone have any suggestions on where he can get massages or adjustments while on island?
Thanks!
Thanks!
My father has similar problems (spinal fusion, etc.). The key for him was having a beach chair that sat him at the right height with the right posture. It was easiest for him to bring a packable chair as checked luggage. On our 2006 trip he was enjoying himself so much that he over did it and had some challenges when he returned home. Slow and easy!
For me, vicodin cures all ills. Though rum and ibuprofen have been doing the job since I got my last fix.
Cheers, RickG

Not sure where you are staying but for me a good bed is key. I avoided one rental because X-islandgirl said the beds were uncomfortable. As I recall Villa Bijou has "heavenly beds" from the Westin hotel chain. I have also read some villa descriptions that state they have Temper-pedic mattresses. Something worth asking from villa rental companies.

If Bern Putnam is still in Marketplace, he is an excellent chiropractor.
Lina Guild is a great massage therapist. She comes to your villa.
Also the spa right on South Shore Rd that just opened. The owner she is a massage therapist.
Chris Chapman is really good massge therapist. She was in the Lumberyard.

Drift Away Spa is located on the second floor of the Greenleaf Commons Building, conveniently located 500ft from the Westin resort in St John, USVI. ...

This is some good info to know since I've been laid up since December with a bad back. I can't ride more than 15 minutes in the car, so I have no idea how I'd do all the way to St John. I suppose booze and vicodin might help, but it might also get me removed from the plane.
I've already figured that I will need the aisle seat so I can get up during the flight and reposition etc...
I'm glad I went para-sailing on our honeymoon, because that was a pretty choppy speed boat ride. My question is...Will I be able to do that new zip line safely?
Heheheheeee....

I had back surgery and now have a re-herniated and another bulging disc. The first day of our vacation we ALWAYS have Barb and Cary come to the villa and give us a massage. It releases all of the tension from the flight, etc.byado18 wrote:Great massage therapists....either at Caneel or they will come or villa....

My suggestions.... a hot tub is great to relax you. I travel with an ice pack (or frozen peas work in a pinch) and always have one in the freezer. Put a pillow behind the small of your back if the road to your villa is bumpy. Floating in salt water does wonders for you. For some reason I always feel better down there.
Finally...KNOW YOUR LIMITATIONS.....I wanted to go to Salt Pond in the worst way but I knew that climb back up would do me in for the remainder of the trip so we didn't go..

Bevm.......I am glad to see that I'm not crazy. I have had chronic back problems for years, sometimnes ok, most of the time painful, and sometimes unbearable, but I always seem to feel better by the second day of floating in that water. I can carry heavy coolers, hike, and do anything I want, almost pain free. By the time I get home, I'm in pain again. I'm miserable on the plane each way. I always get an isle seat and squirm and shift constantly. I've tried Soma's, Valium, Vicoden, nothing works. I don't think an ice pack would help me....I need moist heat. I don't know how I could do that on the plane.
This day is about an 8 on the 1 to 10 scale. Is it too early for a drink?
