TR - Hut Trip
The weather in the foothills was warm and dry and Golden, CO was brown. Sat, Sun, and Mon temps were in the 70's. Rode the bike up to Lookout Mt so my legs and lungs could acclimate to the thin air. Skiied Winter Park on Sunday and Cooper on Monday. We headed up to Janet's Cabin on Tuesday. The hut is at 11,600', just below the Continental Divide. The weather was clear and cold skiing in. It snowed Tuesday night, off and on all day Wednesday, and all day Thursday. We skiied out in a blizzard Thursday afternoon. The high temp for the three days was 18. Golden got 20" of snow, and the "Blizzard of 2009" practically shut Denver down.
The skiing routine? Runs in the morning, runs in the afternoon. Ski up above tree line, ski down through the trees. Or ski way up to Searle Pass and carve tele turns in limitless powder. Did I mention powder? Yeah, we're powder hounds.
Here are a few pix from the trip.

Yes, we sampled the CO and MT micro-brews, and took a few flasks of Leopold Bros, Three Pins Alpine Herbal Liqueur into the hut. http://www.leopoldbros.com/Three_Pins.htmlRickG wrote:Fun! Good ales and food too I bet. I heard from a buddy in Boulder that the front range got absolutely hammered.
Cheers, RickG
