Disney Vacation Club Press Release

DISNEY TO BUILD US VIRGIN ISLANDS RESORT

Luxury family resort planned for Caneel Bay on the island of St. John.

BURBANK, Calif., April 1, 2009 - Walt Disney Parks & Resorts has announced that the company has finalized plans to purchase 21 acres of oceanfront property on the U.S Virgin Islands' island of St. John.

The property, located along two of Caneel Bay's seven lagoons on the island's breathtaking North Shore, surrounded by the Virgin Islands National Park, will be home to Disney's second mixed-use family resort outside of its theme park developments. The expansive resort, scheduled to open in 2013, is planned to have more than 800 units, including hotel rooms and Disney Vacation Club villas.*

"This resort hotel will give our Guests another way to visit an exciting part of the world with a brand they trust," said Jay Rasulo, Chairman of Walt Disney Parks & Resorts. "In fact, the Virgin Islands has been among our most requested Disney Vacation Club getaway locations beyond our Theme Parks. We are looking forward to building a special family resort that honors the cultural diversity of the Virgin Islands and reflects the West Indian culture that makes this location so unique. Combined with our Hawaiian Resort and our planned Clear Lake Iowa Resort, we will have the far east, middle and far west of the USA markets covered."

Consistently ranked as one of the top family destinations in the world, St. John's natural beauty and extensive offering of family activities make it an ideal location for a Disney resort.

"Disney and the Virgin Islands have something special in common, and that is the recognition of the importance of the spirit of the Virgin Islands, Cruzan Rum," said Governor John Percy deJongh, Jr.. "Not only does Disney provide wonderful family vacations, but as a media company, it also touches people worldwide with its entertainment offerings. The new Disney development will be a great addition to St. John, and I am pleased to welcome a company that can also bring the world of new media and digital technology to the Virgin Islands, opening new opportunities for innovative partnerships in non-tourism related sectors."

Caneel Bay

The new resort hotel and the accompanying 99 slip full-service state-of-the-art marina will be the latest addition to the Caneel Bay development, known for its sweeping ocean views, picture-postcard white sand beaches and tranquil crystal blue lagoons.

John M. Scott, President & Chief Executive Officer of Rosweood Hotels & Resorts and master developer of Caneel Bay, has been working closely with Disney on the land acquisition and project.

"Caneel Bay means 'Cinnamon Bay,' and I can't imagine a more perfect fit here than a Disney resort that will bring joy to people from around the world," Scott said. "For many years, it has been our vision to continue to expand Caneel Bay as a premier vacation destination for families and business travelers, and this new Disney resort hotel is making that vision a wonderful reality. We are very happy to continue to monetize this high-value property for our investors and look forward to continued expansion on the remaining 149 acres of this holding."

Nice try Rick. But not even in the upside down world were the average senator would pimp out his own mom would this one fly. Although Rosewood is getting a new long term lease and a little leeway in it a marina and timeshares isn't going to fly on national park land. It has taken them years to get permision to build a school on park land let alone Micky world.
Happy April Fools
Jay

PS If they chose to build it on St Thomas or St Croix then all bets would be off and the Senators would line up for hand outs.

I'll have to admit, I took this hook, line and 99 slip marina...Rick G. you are a wicked man....Don't ever change!

In my own defense, I haven't had my coffee yet this morning, so I'm still a little groggy.
Still waiting to return to St. John!

Rick, If you had read a little further into the links you would have seen that they were also going to build a state of the art performance hall with never before seen 3D projection technology. Walt Disney himself will be there to bring you a duet by Elvis Presley and John Lennon, and Root Boy Slim and the Sex Change Band will will be performing "Live For Tonight."

Geez, Rick, this press release does not even mention one of the most exciting parts of the new development--the zip line that they are going to build from Kenny Chesney's house on top of Caneel Hill down to the main beach. I even heard that they hired Ruth to run the operation!
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.
