Wisconsin Summer Gathering - Update!!

Post by Tracy in WI »

I know this is a bit off-topic for most of you, so please forgive me!

For those of you joining us for the Wisconsin Summer Gathering, I have chosen a hotel based on some of the preferences that were stated before. Unfortunately, for the size group we have, they do not offer discounts on room rental. Here is what I thought (with some good input from others)- of course, you can stay wherever you would like!

Date: Saturday, July 14th
Hotel: Sheraton Madison Hotel (a Starwood Property)

http://www.starwoodhotels.com/sheraton/ ... ertyID=759

This hotel has two restaurants on-site, a pool, and is close to the highway. Also, if we still plan to do some boating that day, it is very close to a boat landing where you can be picked up. There is an additional bar/restaurant within walking distance.

Rates online are $143 plus tax, I was quoted $139 plus tax via phone. I did not search via expedia or any of the other online sites.

I will also offer to host an evening gathering at my home where we can use the blender to our hearts content. We can decide this at a later date!

Here is who I have listed as coming:

Sea-Nile (Terese) for 2-4 people (2 kids)
Chickadee (Jennifer) for 4 people (2 kids)
Waterguy for 1 person
Pete and Marcia for 2 people (maybe kids?)
Sitter for 2-4 people (2 kids)
Tracy and Juice for 2-4 people (maybe 2 kids)

Possibles:

RonL

And anyone else who decides to join us is more than welcome!!

Please keep me posted via PM if your plans change.

If we do a thing at your house, sign me up to bring a dish. I'll also bring the makings for my favorite island drink - Dark & Stormy.

Thanks for taking the lead, I'm sure it's going to be a great time!

Hi Tracy,
Thanks for getting this going.

Should we go boating early before check in time at the hotel, like noon or so? Maybe we can check in early. I think check in was 3 pm when I stayed there.

What ages are the other kids? I don't know if I will bring mine or not. They might come if there are others close to their age. (mine will be 16 and 12)

I will definitely bring something to eat and drink although I am sure that my cooking is not as good as Tom's.
I will send you a PM with some other questions and ideas.
This will be fun!

My "kids" that I will ?maybe? bring would be the girls that went with us to St. John in Dec. Stephanie is 23 & ~standing in line to party anytime~...& Lindsay will be 18 next week.
For sure tell us what we can bring.

I checked a few different websites regarding the Sheraton (Expedia, Travelocity) and their rates are the same or higher than directly booking at the hotel.

Do you think that it would be important for us to have rooms close to each other so it may be easier to party in the rooms, etc? If so, I will call them and see if we can reserve a few like this. It looks like so far we will only need 3 rooms. Are there others out there that will be staying at the Sheraton?

I will be staying there in April for a training. I will check it out better. (I just stayed there in Jan for the same reason). It seems very nice and the pool looks nice.

I just reserved my room at the Sheraton, Madison for July 14th. I will send sitter and waterguy (Tom) messages about how we can have rooms near each other.

If anyone else is interested in reserving a room near us, PM me so I can give you my full name and we can have party rooms close to each other.

I think this will be a lot of fun!

This sounds good Sea-Nile - that means the party is a go! We can go boating as soon as everyone is able to get to town if you all would still like to do so. My boat holds 13 max (with that many we might just sink!)and so if we have more than that, we will need to see if Pete and Marcia would still like to join in with their boat.

Then we can head over to our house for a little more afterwards if everyone would like or stay near the hotel.

Thanks for continuing this!

So how close is the Sheraton from the boats or your house Tracy? Is this the closest place to stay?

The Sheraton has shuttle busses that take people downtown so maybe we won't have to get a DUI. Maybe the busses could take us to the lake too.

The Sheraton is very close to where we could pick everyone up on our boat. There is a park with a boating landing probably 1/2 mile away. My house is about 5 miles or so from there and fairly easy to get to.
