Fruit Seasons?

Post by RickG »

We usually hit STJ in October/November and the local fruit is pretty played out. With an April/May trip coming up, what kinds of local fruit will be in season? Papaya, Mango, Tamarind, Genip, Guavabery, custard apples and othe blender bait?

Cheers, Rick

Hi Rick, in late May-early June we saw mangoes, papaya, bananas, and a few unidentifiable things for sale in the local fruit section of the market. Check the little fruit stand by Gibney too--sometimes they have stuff for sale on the honor system.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

Thanks, we used to get some good luck at the Gibney stand - star fruit, papaya, banana. Not in a while, though.

I haven't been on island in May since 1999...

I know where there is a stand of papaya but you would have to let me come down with you because if I told you then I'd have to kill you

Rick, last trip the Gibney stand always had bananas. I never saw starfruit though.
