Taking an 8% hit

Post by jclampet »

Well my bloody job with the State of Delaware is about to take an 8% cut in salary (along with all state employees). I think our governor has already lost his job and he just got sworn in (dummy).

The good news is that the airfair is paid, the villa is paid , the play money is set aside and there aint no stinkin pay cut can keep me away.... grrrrrrrr.....see everyone in May.

We're in a similar situation! At least we still have our jobs & pay isn't being cut, but my job will self-destruct on Oct. 1st.

Our STJ trip is paid for and the play money has been set aside for a long time. Damn the torpedoes, full steam ahead! :D

What happens in OCT that your job will self destruct?

I do consider myself pretty lucky, I have my military retirement and this job and mama is working also, so things are ok, but I am writing all my state reps none the less in the hopes that we can decrease the amount we are being cut, or at least decrease our work hours to match the pay cut.

Either way, mama and me been planning this trip for 2 years and it's a done deal...

I took a hit in hour reduction. Basically working part time but nothing will stop us from our trip May 15th thru 24th. We planned for it and we move forward.

"F" The Economy, I'm On St. John tour is still on! :D

I will be at the BB on the 17th. Boston Red Sox hat on backwards is my ID. Lets hoist a drink in the air and toast to our life on the rock for the time we are there.

I work for a really small company... two of us. My boss has decided she'll retire after our travel program in August, and will try to have the business wrapped up by Oct. 1st.

I work for a privately held company, recently taken over by a Capital Equity Company (ruthless SOB's who care about absolutly nothing other than earnings).

We planned our trip 9 months ago (before the takeover) with 2 other couples. Our trip dates were Feb 7 - 15. 2 weeks before our trip, I was informed that I would:

1. Take a personal 16% salary cut in order to keep my job,and

2. On Feb 16, eliminate 4 positions from my team.

So - I went on Vacation on island, then came home to a reduced salary AND had to fire 4 people my first day back at work!!!

I felt just horrible. There I was, sitting across the table with my fresh VI tan letting people go.

Sometimes work just sucks...

Jim,
It's happening everywhere, just taking longer to hit some than others. We'll see you and Boston Mike at The BB on May 17th :) . CG, I'm sorry to hear about your job. At least you have some time to plan for it.
Going "home" again October 26th!

Jim,

Sorry to hear about the pay cut and I hope they cut your hours to match it.

Look forward to seeing you during the happy times of vacation on St. John!

:(

After just hitting the 23 year mark with his
company, on April 30th. , Hubby's company will
be closing doors, locking gates and throwing
away the key! I put in 13 years there.

It has cost 600+ people their jobs. He (along with
~20 others have spent the last 6 weeks in NJ training
maint. and operators how to "run" and repair
this equipment.

Also, both of my daughters and 1 son-inlaw work
for the state / county . They also are taking
pay cuts and benefit cuts.

Times are Trying.........We are still taking
the STJ trip we planned as well...but may
have to shop for a little better price on a
villa ( had my heart set on "REEF MADNESS" )
with Viva Villas !

But the Sun will shine again on all of us soon,I HOPE!

Keep the Faith

jclampet You lost 8 percent. That means you still have 92 percent of a government job. By many standards your a lottery winner. I wish I'd had the brains to go to work for the government back when somebody might've hired me! (or been a
pharmacist like my mother wanted me to be)

Many of us don't have regular salaries anymore, much less dreams of retirement and/or savings. I'm thankful that we planned (and paid)for our April trip last May. It was before we hit the quicksand.

Trying to remain optimistic philbetm(Sherry)...best to you and your husband and those 600 others who are now jobless. Good luck with your affordable villa search. More importantly, hope your husband finds new employment...It will probably be easier to find a deal on a villa. Just gotta keep the faith that things will pick up and we can go back to more secure times.

Vi lover You must be a big boss somewhere...I would've been sick the whole trip if I'd had to come back and lay people off...would've probably stayed home instead...your right...that totally sucked! Hoping things get better.

WOW....Hey everyone....I think I feel better??? But man I feel horrible for some of the other folks here. I promise I am praying for everyone that things recover in the job market and that we all get back on top, otherwise I promise I will run a toast to everyones good fortune the very first drink at BB on the 17th, and I hope this all gets better for everyone. It is so sad to see so many good poeple getting floored...Blessings to all..carry on with high spirits.... :( :)

That sucks, but it's only 8%. I was laid off in Sept and operating on an 80% pay cut on unemployment. I keep hearing I'm overqualified (I am with my MA & 5 yrs exp) but want to work.

We're still going to STJ in May and still have a 10 month emergency fund in savings. We reevaluated our budget & cut back (only buying grocery essentials, not eating out, etc). It can be done :)
