My husband's aunt worked for the post office, and oftentimes Bozo tickets would end up in the dead letter pile because people sent for them years ahead and then moved. Postal Workers nabbed them. So our kids have been a few times. Also went with the scouts, and some friends who worked for WGN.

I remember going once after the new Bozo, Joey D'Auria started, and the license plate on his car out in the WGN parking lot was "DA NU BOZ"

I spent a lot of time in hospital waiting rooms when I was a kid, and I can't tell you how many times Ringmaster Ned would come by to visit the sick kids. Good guy. Before Bozo, he was on the Uncle Bucky and Uncle Ned show.

Having grown up in Japan, my favorite cartoons as a kid are most likely not known here. We have great cartoons, though, and I'm not talking about that yuckie (to me) ANIME stuff.

As for imported cartoons, I remember watching Tom and Jerry a lot. I seemed to have liked it because it rarely had dialog. I also enjoyed the music and the sound effects.

And, I have a soft spot for Flipper. It was dubbed (except Flipper - he sounded genuine). Even the theme song had a Japanese lyric, which was something like "My Flipper, Flipper, he is playing hide-and-seek somewhere in the deep sea..." I still don't know the original English lyric.

Growing up, I had four channels on TV. Two of them were public/educational channels that I hardly ever watched, which left me only two channels to choose from. Yes, I grew up in a small town. When I moved to Tokyo at the age of 18, my friends were amused by me because I didn't know what "Bat Man" was. I was treated like a girl from the moon. Now they ask me about shows made here. Many major network shows in the U.S. are broadcast in Japan but are often a couple of seasons behind. I say things like "Oh, he died" and they get upset "What? Don't tell me that!" "Oh, sorry" and I just shrug.

Oh my gosh, I never knew Bozo was that popular. I forgot about Gilligan's Island. It is likely that I have seen almost every episode. Thanks to those who posted links to the retro cartoons. Fun! Anyone remember Mr Dress Up? Or, I am getting confused and he was on the Captain Kangaroo show :? ? I just remember there were Casey and Finnigan puppets.

They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning,
No one you see, is smarter than he,
And we know Flipper, lives in a world full of wonder,
Flying there under, under the sea!

Everyone loves the king of the sea,
Ever so kind and gentle is he,
Tricks he will do when children appear,
And how they laugh when he’s near!

They call him Flipper, Flipper, faster than lightning,
No-one you see, is smarter than he,
And we know Flipper, lives in a world full of wonder,
Flying there-under, under the sea!

I have to admit that I copied these lyrics off the net. All I could remember was the "Flipper, Flipper. faster than lightning" part.

I think the original English version is better. I actually didn't know it was a he (I used "he" in my translation more like "one"). Thanks, California Girl.

Beanie and Cecil until I graduated to Tom Terrific and finally Johnny Quest. I don't think Space Angel counts because it was basically moving lips on a series of still images (creepy).

Snagglepuss is a cougar who always said, "Heavens to Murgatroid" and "Exit...stage left!" (or right)

I use to be ALL about Fantasy Island too! De plene, de plene! Forgot about that one. Also use to watch the Donny & Marie show, The Sonny & Cher Show (I liked when she use to lay across the piano & sing V.A.M.P), and was it Wonderful World of Disney on Sunday nights, the one where Walt use to talk at the beginning??? Loved that!!! This thread is making me feel old, I'm gonna go now. At least I was only a kid...
