The Skinny on Fish Bay

Post by Fowst »

We'll be staying at South Shore Villa this June. It's located above Fish Bay and I know nothing about that part of the island. Are there any top-shelf beaches nearby? Is it REALLY 10 minutes from Cruz Bay? Is there anything other than residences around Fish Bay? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,

Fowst

We always have stayed in Fish Bay. It is a beautiful part of the island. It is remote, but not too remote. One thing that we enjoy about it is that there are fewer lights so the stars shine brighter at night.

I would say that it is closer to 15-20 minutes into Cruz Bay. But, it is a fun and pretty drive.

The only two beaches that are accessible in that area are Reef Bay and a little beach on the east side of Ditliff point. Getting to the beach at Reef Bay involves finding the secret trail (complete with a rope attached to a utility pole). Getting to the Ditliff Point beach involves trespassing on the new development going up there. For these reasons, we usually head to the other beaches on island.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Edit: I just looked at the website for your villa. You have a great view of Reef Bay and the Southern part of the National Park. That's a killer view, especially when the stars come out.

Not only is it about 10 minutes to Cruz Bay, but if you love to actually use the villa, you will absolutley be amazed by this home, and will not want to go anywhere.

Technically, you are in Skytop, and you are at the top of the hill. The view goes from Reef Bay to ST. Thomas, the pool is awesome, and the kitchen is fantastic. Very nice villa.

The beaches generally have the exact opposite conditions at the North Shore Road, so when we were there we went North Shore every day.

Have fun!

I will add this...as you stand on your deck taking in the breeze, realize that it is coming from Africa, after glancing off Rams Head. Pretty cool.

It really is only a 10min. drive to Cruz Bay from Fish Bay. I am almost in Reef Bay. 6 min. to the Westin. 8 min. to Pine Peace Market:)
Fish Bay lovers looking for a frugal vacation, check out SOL Cottage www.vrbo.com/172750 Some great reviews in my first full year of rental. BTW-I am the owner.

It's definitely more than 10 minutes from Cruz Bay all the way up to Skytop. You might be able to get from the edge of town to the edge of Fish Bay in 10 minutes (but that's pushing it), but then you've got to get all the way up to Skytop at the top of the mountain. We stayed at Sol Inclination last year...it is just above South Shore Villa. The area is breathtakingly beautiful, but we did find the location inconvenient. You’re not close to either town or the beaches, but even so, I’m sure you won’t regret the decision to stay there :)
