Place to buy camera on St. Thomas

Post by jgf711 »

Well I've decided to buy the Olympus Stylus 8000 for our trip to St. John next month. It is rated for 33 feet underwater and I'm going to give it a try.

Does anyone have any good places on St. Thomas (or St. John) that I could get a good buy on the camera?

Thanks,

Joe and Ellen

We've bought at the Royal Caribbean store in Charlotte Amalie. We got a better price there on the camera than they had online before we left, but definitely make sure you know what your best price is-and you can bargain down what they offer or they might throw something else in on the deal. There's another camera store (begins with a B? :? ) also I believe either downtown or at Havensight. I don't think there's any camera stores on St. John but I could be mistaken. Just like with jewelry though-make sure you know your prices ahead of time-good luck.

Thanks all for the very valuable information. Maybe I should reconsider and buy the camera here.

Thanks again,

We have bought all of our electronics at the Boolchands in downtown Charlotte Amalie. They are convieniently located near The Grand jewellry store so I can be buying my bling while the hubby can browse the elctronics. They have always had great prices and if you barter a little bit they start throwing all the accessories in as well.

Looking forward to the upcoming release of the Canon Powershot D10 underwater camera in May. Specs look good for the price. Likely to give the similar Olympus and Pentax models a run for their money.

My D50 (Nikon) is from the Boolchands in Havensight. And Royal Caribbean is another highly regarded shop. I used both stores when I lived on St. Thomas. My sister-in-law shops at Boolchands, and other Virgin Islanders I know well do also, as well as Royal Caribbean.

Thanks to all. While I'm still not certain, I now have some great information to help me make my decision.

The best thing is that in 12 days we'll be back on St. John. Yipee!!

Thanks again,
