We will be arriving in STJ exactly 2 weeks from right now. . We will be there over the Easter holiday. Will the stores, ie, resturants and grocery, be open on Easter, or do we need to stock up? Also are there any special or traditional things that happen on the island over Easter, that we should be aware of. ( Besides staying up all night to watch Easter rock )?

hey guys, we too will be in the islands over easter week but we will be on st thomas not st john. but kind of the best of both worlds for us we feel as we rent this awesome villa on the farthest east point of stt at the top of cabrita point. very private but just up the hill from red hook and the ferry so we can be on stj in a flash. villa fantasia is the place we rent. anyway, dont know bout stl but all i heard for stt for easter is that you cant buy any alcohol on good friday until after 4pm for some reason. not at any stores, resorts, restaurants or bars. not sure if the same on stj. otherwise i think everything is open and running just like any other sunday in paradise!!!! if anyone else can provide input here feel free............also, i hear carnival season opens on st thomas on easter sunday but i think it is just an evening ceremony but i am not sure where. cheers, john.
Easter rock is a huge egg shaped rock just outside Cruz Bay, I believe on the north shore road? It's on the ocean side. You can't miss it. The story says that on the night before easter the rock rolls down the hill into the ocean, and on easter morning it rises back up to the top of the hill again. Proven by the fact that it is wet on easter morning. The rock really exists. I've never been there on Easter before, so I don't know if the story is true.
