Handy Gadget for Photographers

I bought one of these for DH before our last tropical trip, and it was really handy! If you're taking pictures on your own, or if you are the photographer and want to actually be in all the group shots, you might like the "Gorillapod" (No, I'm not selling these! Just really liked in on our vacation.) It's small enough to fit in a backpack or even fanny pack, but strong enough to hold your camera steady on uneven surfaces or wrapped around posts and tree branches. You can get on Amazon or from Joby (the manufacturer.)

We got some great shots of the family by wrapping this around a banyan branch and setting the timer.

I bought one of those for my fiance last year - he loves it! Very cool gadget.

If that’s a picture from your last tropical trip – that’s a heck of a lot of Coke on the ground. Are you keeping this place a secret? The only reason you need 4-wheel dive in Florida is to dodge the Mary-J bails or you might hit a Cocaine Slick. Just kidding of course – look like a pretty cool foo-ma-chigger.

Chicagoans, very cool! Does it screw into the camera where a tripod would? Gonna have to put this on my list of must haves!

FlaGeorge, I may be confused, but are you the one with the waterproof cover for your digital camera or is it Nascarfan59? I have an big ol' sony slr dig. camera and someone had a picture of their cover. If so what is it? Think I'll wait to get a waterproof camera...just get a cover. The one I have now replace the camera I lost to a bottle of formula. Just a matter of time.

FlaGeorge, the top of Mt. Haleakala on Maui does get cold in the mornings! (And if you think that's where the picture's from, then I'll sell you that bridge to the Keys.)

KellyAnna: it has a little clip that you screw into the bottom of the camera, then the 'pod clicks into that. I bought from Joby so that I could buy an extra clip (to just keep in on a 2nd camera.) If you just need one clip, that comes with the 'pod and you can get it at a few sites, inc. Amazon.

I have an underwater pouch from ewa-marine for my kodak point & shoot. Here is the link http://ewamarine.com/english/

I was suprised at how well it worked - it's not great - but good and its a lot cheaper then an underwater housing.

The other nice thing is that I can use it on the land and not worry about rain of sand.

George- I've always been nervous to try one of those on just my point n shoot digital! Do you really have no problems with them? I see they even have them for SLRs but I'd be way to nervous to try that!

FYI, yall. I don't know what I'm talking about. I don't have an SLR. I've emailed someone from the ewa-marine distributor to see what they recommend for my non-compact digital camera.

Join the club. I was nervous as hell the first time. I put my Kodak in the pouch - Screwed the clamps down so hard that Hercules would have trouble opening it. Then, dunked it in my pool to see if I saw any bubbles. My theory was – if it leaked – I get to buy a new and better camera. As a result – it worked great and I still bought a newer camera. So the point & shoot is for the water and the other camera is for the land.
