Anybody ever been to Charleston?

Hi Susan,
We live 3 hours from there and love being
there anytime we can. If considering a B&B in
town...try the Meeting St. Inn. It is lovely
and right at the Battery Park.
Also, make sure you take the walk way tothe top of the new bridge it is awsome! To do this go across the bridge into Mt. Pleasant
turn right at the sign to Patriot's Point then
a quick right into the parking lot of the
Quality Inn. This is where everyone parks most
of the time to take the walk. Be sure to do
it at night. This hotel is where we usually stay.
It is very, very nice and offers a full
breakfast buffet with stays.
And for beach time we have found Sullivan's Is.
to be a beautiful spot. Go to the street named
Station 26, find a place to pull off...take the
wooden walkway out to the beach. There is a killer
tide pool there that attracts more adults than
kids!! It goes from ankle to chest deep with
the warmest water ever.
Hope you find some of this useful.
Sherry

I love Charleston.....we always stay in Mt. Pleasant and then head over to IOP and Shems Creek and Johns Island and Sullivan.....they are pretty much near each other.
Sullivan Island used to have a pub think it was Edgar Alan Poe related....poe's tavern
Those in the area may know better.
There is this restaurant on Johns Island called
'noisy oyster' we love.......I have not been in a couple yrs but hopefully it is still there and then on Shems Creek there was vickery's we love them.
If you stay closer to IOP you could even head to Georgetown.....just head up Hwy 17....
No matter what you do you will have a blast......
All the suggestions so far are sooooo good from everyone.......makes me want to go back.......

YES! That's the place! After 12 yrs. I still remember that restaurant. The food was really really good, and the fact that you're eating in an old house is pretty cool too.lprof wrote:Joshie, having been rather quiet lately, leaves me little mystery to ponder...therefore the "google" that resulted in:

Susan,
If you hop over to the beaches, don't discount Folly Beach. Isle of Palms is your more resorty and upscale beach and is very nice. On the other side of Charleston, however, you'll find the more laid back, old style, low key, beach bum, surfer haven of Folly Beach. I like it's vibe.
Sadly, the best place to eat, the Anchor Line (think dumpy shack that looks like it should be condemned where you line up at a counter to get heaping platters of the world's best fried seafood and eat it at sticky picnic tables) has closed. That place was fantastic. You can still visit places like the Folly Beach Crab Shack, where you can sit in a bar hammock with a low country lemonade or get seafood by the bucket and throw your shells and bones into another bucket through a hole in the middle of the table. You can head the Washout and watch some surfers in action and then have a drink at the Barrier Island Surf Shop. After strolling around, grab an ice cream nearby. They even have a Woody's (okay, okay...it's not exactly the same....).
Whatever you do, have fun!
