I really need to stop reading forums

Post by Connie »

I hope it's just not me, but with no vacations planned, these forums just bum me out.

I've read alot of threads that people aren't taking their vacation, or are putting it off.

Yet again, it seems at the last minute, some people are just going for it.

I'm just bummed.

Do I have to quote you, as well as Senor Chesney?!
"I've had it up to here, let's go down there...!"
Come on, My Dear!!!
Check out airfares & come watch me and My Sweet amy get married on Maho!
I'm sure yours is a reflection of Glenns' attitude, too,(you're bummed out situation...)
Keep your chin up, girl!
Why not come down for the nuptials?
Kisses, hugs, and always
Smiles-

Connie you aren't alone. This forum tortures me since we don't have a trip planned, but I keep reading!

The worst is that airfare was looking horrible out of KC and we decided to save some money and head to Florida instead. I'm really looking forward to Sanibel, but now airfare is better and part of me just says, why didn't you spend the extra 1,000-1,500 and go where you love! Oh well! I'm comforting myself with knowing that I can start planning a 2010 trip this summer if all goes well.

You're not alone.

I'm still not willing to say that I won't somehow make a trip this year, but deep down I know that it's highly unlikely - I just won't allow myself to say it's impossible.

I'm glad for the people that are able to find a way - and maybe I'll end up being one of them.

...but probably not...

If we didn't pay for our trip to STJ already we probably wouldn't be going. But I feel like, "Oh well, our 401K's are in the crapper so why not?" And this year more than ever we need this vacation as we're dealing with a parent with early dementia. So, that being said...we're going (hopefully) and having a damn good time.
I think the forum allows all of us to live our lives vicariously through others. Even though we can't be there, through trip reports and photos it's almost like we are...

I understand how so many of you are feeling. I feel totally blessed that I was able to go in Nov with Lulu and friends. I now have no idea if I can get back in June for carnival.
I still have my dream of being back on island FT very soon.......

It does bum you out reading all the bad stuff. I and the wife said it from the start that no matter what happens we are still going to St. John. There is nothing that will stop us. So it happened. Hours at work cut from 50 hours a week to 32. She is still at it full time so we manage to make a few adjustments in our habits and it is working out. It also helps that we have planned for a situation like this years ago. I have been through it before and hit the bottom of the bucket. I promised myself I would never go through that again no matter what.

Mahojim….I certainly agree with the KC quote! We are on the same page here.

Some of the things we did back in the early 90’s that helped in a big way were to dump all credit cards except for one. If you want something bad enough and you feel the need to have it, then pay for it in cash if you can.

Another silly thing I started was my debit card program. We use them as a credit card when making purchases. At the end of the month we tally up the purchases and pay our checking account for the debit cards back and then tack on 25 percent interest like a credit card company would. That 25 percent gets transferred into what we call our rainy day savings account. We have been doing this for over 10 years now. Sounds silly, but over the years that account has grown and continues to grow.

No matter what you have to live your life to the fullest and with no regrets. I do not ever want to run into a wall and look back and say crap I never go to do that.

Thats just my blurb for now

I like this debit card idea......let me get this right.
You use you debit card for everything and at the end of the month you total what you spent and deposit into a saving acct and add 25%? I do not pay 25% on my cc's but I could manage 10% more for the beginning
I am trying to get all debt gone. I am still thinking another yr to pay it off. I never use my CC except for emergency and when my sis and BIL both became terminally ill that was the emergency.
I really like this debit card idea......

I don't pay that much either but we do it for the debit card program just to make it work faster. You can use what you are comfortable with.

Give it a whirl. Its not going to make you rich, but as time goes by things add up. At first we started a little to low with the debit account but learned to adjust it to our habbits and needs.

To me it was a little savings trick. Next thing you know I am looking at a nice little bundle I can fall back on if needed.

It doesn't matter if you stop reading this forum. There are still folks in your own community that are STJ fans.

I was in a shop the other afternoon and visiting with a co-worker that happened into the shop. We started chatting about vacations and low and behold they are going to STJ in a few weeks and have been 3 times! I've known her forever and never knew they were STJ fans. They have a friend that has a house on island and lives there during the winter months and they get to go and stay with them and take total advantage of all the island and love it.

I've never talked vacation talk with co-workers much before. I plan on doing that much more in the future.

Talk about jealous! She knew I was jealous about her having a place to stay, free, when I sat there with my mouth slightly open for her entire conversation.

I am actually excited that someone I have worked with knows the secret. The funniest secret is that we were actually there once at the same time and didn't know it. Small world after all.
