I lean towards pairing things for double features:
Amelie and Paris, Je Taime
Hudsucker Proxy and Office Space
Once and The Station Agent
Cast Away
Spirited Away
Anything from the Coen Bros.
Anything Monty Python
And, yes The Thin Man, what a wonderful series.
Slumdog Millionaire may well make this permanent list, too.

Music, like it all at different times.

"Best in Show"- yes! I add that to my list for movies.

Someone else mentioned "One Particular Harbor" and I have to add that to my music list. I get choked up listening to that song.

Movie- The notebook. I like to cry

Songs depends on my mood. Let it BE and Hey Jude are up there. All songs on KC's Lucky Old Sun because they remind me of the SOTB II trip.

It’s interesting to see, what songs and movies you like, and if I know them.

But I will start with making a confessing. Now it must be the time to say it, even though I think it will bring shame on me, and you perhaps will look on me with a new view in the future :) :) .

But here it is:

I HAVE NEVER HEARD KENNY CHESNY OR JIMMY BUFFETT SONGS, AND I DID NOT KNOW THEIR NAMES BEFORE I STARTED TO READ IN THE FORUMS ABOUT USVI.

Now it’s said. What a relief :!:

About the question from Cypress girl:

As others I don’t have a single favourite.

About movies I too liked too example ”Out of Africa” (it’s about a Danish woman) and “Dancing with wolves”. Both of them had so beautiful nature sceneries. I also enjoyed “Dirty Dancing”, because I love dance, and “Pretty Woman”, it’s such a romantic story, I have seen it in the cinema and twice in TV, still get touched. I can see that some of you like Slumdog Millionaire. I haven’t seen it yet, but now I’m sure, I will go for it.

But I really enjoy movies, which make me laugh. Many years ago I saw “Some like it hot” and I remember, how entertained I was. And when I saw the first Crocodile Dundee movie, I afterwards looked, as if I had wept for several hours, which I had – but from laugh. When I leave the cinema after such a movie, I still smile long time after. But like others here, I’m not a special Jim Carey fan, it’s normally not his sort of humour, I find funny.

About music- my taste varies of the situation. I like most of the pop music from the 60 th (”A whiter shade of pale” is also one of my favourites) but I also like some classical music (Ravels Bolero still fascinate me). Rap and modern jazz music is not on my favourite list, but I like the traditional jazz.

So that’s my movie- and music life.

Linne, I'd never heard of Kenny Chesney until I started reading this forum either. And I don't even have the excuse of living in Denmark! :D

I love the movie Dirty Dancing too. Did you know that they made a Broadway musical out of it? It's playing in Boston right now, and it's mostly sold out.

1 - Out of Africa
2 - The Color Purple
3 - High Fidelity (though it really could just be about John Cusack)

Favorite song(s):

All time - Crush - Dave Matthews Band

Ain't no Sunshine - Bill Withers
Layla - Clapton - acoustic version
Brothers in Arms - Dire Straits
Badfish Boss DJ - Jack Johnson version
Anything by the Eagles, Fleetwood Mac, the Guess Who ;)

Songs
Backstreets – Springsteen
Pure and Easy – The Who
Blue Sky – Allman Brothers
When I Write the Book – Rockpile (Nick Lowe/Dave Edmunds)
Genesis – by Jorma Kaukonen (of Jefferson Airplane & Hot Tuna fame) We had a singer and acoustic guitar perform this beautiful song during our wedding ceremony so it holds a special place. Not a well known song so I googled it just for fun and astonishingly there is a video of him performing it years ago on Italian TV. At the risk of sounding ancient, the stuff you can find on the internet still manages to amaze me sometimes...now I have to go yell at some kids to get off my lawn.

Linne - Have you listened to Jimmy Buffett or Kenny Chesney since learning about them on the forum? I like them both, mainly Buffett, because they both "get" that island way of life.

Flip Flop...I LOVE Crush; it's one of my favorite DMB songs. I have so many though.

Chet - LOVE The Big Lebowski!!!! Thanks for the reminder!
"Eat, drink, and be merry for tomorrow we die" - Dave Matthews Band

Linne,
I have still only listened to Kenny Chesney ONCE, and I LIVE ON ST.JOHN! Someone lent me a CD about 5 years ago, but I bet I wouldn't recognize any of it again.
Jimmy Buffet was a big part of the sound track of the 1970's Caribbean. It was too commercial for my taste at the time, but nostalgia adds a lot, and he's now like one of the old friends from that era......
