Flights booked - Any advice on travel insurance?

Yes, I finally decided on a house and booked the flights today for 1 - 8 Nov. Now to get travle insurance. Any recommendations? I feel rejuvented just knowing a trip is on the horizon!

Get the "Cancel for Any Reason" rider.
You have to buy the travel insurance within 14 days of your first vacation expendature, but it could be very worthwhile. It's an additional $75 or so.

I'd be curious about what people would expect to pay. I just checked it out to get the free quote. I was surprised at the cost -- I thought it would be lower. The base price was $368 and the 'cancel for any reason' rider was $190 above that. And this is not a pricey trip, I guessed around $4800 with our villa, car, and other items. Our airfare was free (frequent flyers.) I tried a few different numbers just to see (e.g. estimated cost if we did have to pay for flights) and the cost was pretty consistent at around 12% of the trip cost. I guess this is cheap compared to the cost of the trip, but for some reason I thought it would be lower, like around 7 or 8% of the trip cost. I'm going to see what we could get through our regular agent.

For those who do get travel insurance, what do you expect to pay, as a rough percentage of your trip cost?

I wasn't IMPLYING anything :oops:

Just that folks need to be aware if they are younger they pay less and the older you are the higher the price. It's not one size fits all. :roll:

AND BTW if travelling in early November I would DEFINITELY get trip insurance.

I keep forgetting that 47 isn't young any more! (But isn't it the new 37? Like cellulite is the new tattoo?)

If you want go do a quote and plug in different ages and you'll see what I mean. Do 27 vs. 67.

www.squaremouth.com will give you quotes from numerous providers including CSA that are easy to compare and sort using different metrics.
