Spending a day in STT
I think you need a plan when you're going over to STT. If you're going to Charlotte Amalie for very specific shopping, then that's fine. I'm not a shopper and therefore, I stay as far away from CA as possible.
If you want to go over and see the beaches and different sights, then that's a different matter.
What are you going over to STT to do? Ride around, snorkle and eat somewhere?

The kids will enjoy Magen's. I'd go to Mountaintop
on the way & get a daquiri(virgin or not); great view
& kids will enjoy browsing. Then hit Magen's; lunch is decent there and on way back, park the car & hit
the shopping area as the cruise ship people should be
gone(stores close at 5). Then hit the Greenhouse. The
menu is mainly pub-grub, but the kids will enjoy it
and you can take in the local culture; get a window
table to enjoy the sights. Last ferry over is 6:30
from Red Hook(during the week it will take an hour to
get there from C.A.). If you're not driving, then you
can stay til midnight!
Whatever, enjoy your stay-I'll be there next Thursday!

HLS is in Frenchtown -- driving west on the waterfront it would be the 1st left after town - driving east from the airport it is right at the 1st light AFTER the overhead walking bridge -- compared to Greenhouse it is a friendly family owned dockside local restaurant - way better than a downtown tourist bar.

Hoosier Daddy: I agree with Exit Zero-HLS is more
picturesque than the Greenhouse with better food.
If you want to spend a little time shopping, I would
leave Magen's about 3, park in the big lot east of Ft.Christian, stroll downtown until closing(aro 5PM)
and then head to HLS for dinner. Sounds like a lovely
day! I will be on the island next Thursday(Elysian),
and will be on STJ all day Saturday(at Francis &
Cinnamon & ?), Sunday at Jost, Monday, recovering
from Jost. Your crew shouldn't be hard to spot if
you're in the neighborhood & I'll give a shout!
To Exit Zero: We have an "Exit Zero" a couple of miles from my house: the end of the Garden St. Pwy.
And also a local publication called "Exit Zero" about
Cape May, NJ, happenings! The same??

I have to agree that between GreenHouse and Hook LIne it is not even close. There is nothing wrong with the Green House but it is a typical bar menu. Hook Line is definately a notch above. Keep in mind they don't start serving dinner until 6:00 I would call ahead and reserve a table by the windows. Nothing quite like the salt air, the Sea Plane spray and the smell of fresh fish. As Scuba Girl said its home.
