Villa Security Deposit payment?

Post by Xislandgirl »

I know that as a former rental manager I should not need to ask this question but we never required security deposits.

How do you pay yours? Do you send a check and they hold it and don't cash it unless there is a problem? Can you give them a CC number? If you give a CC number do they place a hold on it?

Final payment is due in 2 weeks and I need to send the security deposit with it.

44 days 23 hours 49 minutes 16,15,14,13......seconds

we haven't paid a security deposit per se for STJ rentals but when I rent my place in Maine I send a check, they cash it and send me back a check a week after I'm home.

We had to pay a security deposit only once for a property on STJ. We paid by check and the same check was returned to us uncashed promptly after our visit.

I just want to make sure that I send the check out ofthe right account. I really hate to tie up $1000 in cash while I am on vacation and then what if they take several weeks to get the money back to me?

Wow, when did I become such a worry wart about money? I just don't want it to decreaae my rum fund :P

We've had to pay a security deposit twice on STJ. Both times the check was returned to us uncashed. It might be good to ask if they just hold the check or actually cash it.

Destination St. John told me that they will need a check, but would not cash it. If all is good when you leave – they send the check back to with the word VOID written on it.

XIG,

It must be up to each individual owner as to whether or not they require a deposit. I have rented multiple time thru DSJ and have only paid a deposit once. They "hold" the check and like FlaGeorge stated, they write VOID on it and mail it back to you after your stay.

I did not even transfer the funds into the account I used, no need. 8)

I've always used a credit card for this...they verify that something like $500 CAN be charged to the card, but they don't actually do it.

Destination returned our uncashed security deposit check a week after we left.

In Tortola I had to send them a check which they cashed and then sent it back to me with their own check.....a LONG time after we got back. Talk about island time. On St. John, I think we sent a check for one house and they sent that back with VOID, not sure, and another time they took CC info but never charged the CC.
