Need Help

Post by southeastofdisorder »

Just back from 8 days - trying not to cry. How do you cope with coming back to reality? Does this sound silly? I did happen to come back to 80 degrees at home which is nice and helps alot. But I'm working on my pictures and I had to stop so I didn't start crying - cried when I left - but hell - I do that when I leave a local beach. Is there a secret? Planning the next trip maybe?

Planning the next trip helps a lot.

And reliving the great trip you had while you write your trip report - helps you and helps all of us, as well.

That's right! The trip report is very cathartic.

Write that report and make it snappy!

My mom gave me a quote cut out of the newspaper before we left - because she knows what I go thru when I come home - quote from Dr. Suess - "Don't cry because it's over - smile because it happened" I'm Trying!!

Spend alot of time here with the rest of us who spend the majority of our time looking forward to the next time we are there.

Love your quote from your Mom!! I'm gonna remember that in May!
All the above tips are what we all use. For me, I did a photobook (shutterfly) which helped alot with the reality blues.....actually still working on it!

Planning that next trip sure takes your mind off not being there & gets it on being there the next time!

It is hard coming home. Watching my wife cry as we took our last walk from the beach bar to Lavender Hills on the last night. Sitting on the deck just taking it in. Going to JJ's for our last breakfast. Dropping the jeep off and heading to the dock to catch the ferry. It hurts. That is when you know you have a fire you just can't put out.

I have been dealing with the pain since last May and it bites. I deal with it by this forum and other websites that keep me on a daily look of the island I love. Sometimes a few long distance Patron shots with one of my fav bartenders down on the island. (it's called drunk dialing...Mike stay away from the phone.

When I really want to get away from it all I just throw my Ipod on to my no worries play list and sit down with a nice cold one in my little caribbean decor bar in the basement. I call it NO SHUUZ MODE

I love that quote! I need to remember that one.

Your post reminded me of one of my favorite photos of my girls, at the airport at the end of one of their first St. John vacations.

Does this look feel familiar? Breaks my heart every time.

I immediately start planning the next trip. Looking through photos helps a lot also. I recently found over 3,000 (!!!) photos from past trips to St. John that I never did anything with on my computer, so I've been editing those. Finding all those pictures was a pleasant surprise, and has been occupying my time in between villa hunting.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I like to start planning the next trip too. Also I like to remember a great comment that a customs officer made to us when we were going through customs after a day trip to Tortola “If you don’t leave, you can never have the joy of coming back”. :)

My wife is into scrapbooking so immediately after we get back she takes her time to develop the venture. I resort to many reviews of my videos and as boston Mike does resort to my bar for caribbean libations! Planning the next trip is definately helpful and we even went as far as having a "tiki" hut theme for our bedroom. Is that "nuts" but the Island is infectious and in todays world having something to look forward to is a must!

ciao

djmom....this pic is so precious! I think we all can feel what they are feeling right through that picture! Ever since I was little when my Mom & Dad said it was time to go from the beach (Florida), I'd cry...I know how they feel.
