12% Lord have mercy. My trainer put me at 8% for a minute once then going back to 4 or 5% for 5 minutes then 9% for a minute...working up to 12%. I died. I no longer have that trainer.

I am hopping in here too. I don't have a treadmill because I have no space so I go to the gym. If I were going to shell out that kind of cash to buy something for my house and I had the room, I'd get an elliptical as well.

I got tendonitis last summer from jogging on the treadmill. I could barely walk for weeks, and my doctor banned me from the treadmill for three months. She told me that using a treadmill is a lot worse than even running on concrete outside and the elliptical is very minimal impact.

I also think the elliptical kicks my hind-end in ways the treadmill could never even imagine.

Lulu - that's true - but as I alluded to in my other post, the elliptical alone will NOT prepare you for 8 tuff miles - you'll need to do a good bit of running to prepare for that, be it on a treadmill or a road.

Oh, Augie, believe me, I know that. I do a lot of walking and running either outside or at the gym, but if I were going to shell out the money for a piece of equipment in my house, it wouldn't be a treadmill.

I think my real training will be this summer when it's hotter than hades here and I run in the hills by my house.
