I Once Complained I Had No Shoes...
Friends and other visitors often ask for suggestions on the best things to do in St. John.
My recommendation is simple: "Get in the water."
More than any other feature, St. John is defined by the water which surrounds it.
I chanced upon these at Trunk Bay. Their owner was nearby, propelling himself effortlessly through the shallows, splashing and whooping like a kid.

"Get into the water," I tell those who ask.
It's the best thing St. John has to offer.
It can transform us, heal us, allow us to forget about the missing pieces of our lives.
In the water, we can feel perfect and whole.
Peace.

That pic was awesome - my husband is an amputee who is now confined to a wheelchair - he will love seeing that - I am hoping to bring him to Lameshur so he can get in the water - our son in laws are great about just picking up the chair and carrying him where we are going and want him to be - it makes it easy to appreciate what we have when you are always faced with the limitations of others - plus the wheelchair is great to hang my bag and other junk on!!! samoka
About 25 years ago, I went skiing (both water and snow) with a friend who was a single leg amputee. I couldn't believe how he attacked his chosen sports with gusto. And, he was really good at both of them. When I made a comment that he was one of the best skiers that I'd seen, and he was doing it with a handicap, he said:
"Everyone has some sort of handicap. Mine is just more visibly obvious."
That really made me think...

Get in the water you say. Last April, while stressed out to the point of nearly being in tears, I stepped into the ocean off the coast of the DR. Within minutes, I could feel myself healing. 1/2 hour later, I had an appetite for the first time in weeks, could feel myself relaxing and was able to enjoy my vacation.
It's why, whenever I need to get away, I seek the ocean. Our poor daughter's never going to see the apparently beautiful mountains we have in NC. When we need to get away, we head for the coast.
Head for the water.

I can't help it...I swear its calling me...
