Ferry Advice

Post by psufan »

I know you are probably tired of questions about the ferry but I wanted some opinions. We are traveling in May. Our flight arrives in STT at 3:25PM. We will have checked luggage. Can we make the 5PM out of Red Hook or should we plan on the 5:30 out of CA assuming it is still running? I guess the other option would be a water taxi. What do you experts think?

I think that I like to start my island time when I step onto the last flight to StJ. Play it by ear, if you have your luggage more than 45 minutes before the ferry departure then you should have plenty of time to catch a Red Hook Ferry. Best to ask the taxi dispatcher and driver. They know how traffic is that day. I prefer to relax and catch a CA ferry. The only thing you might gain by making the 5pm is more daylight on StJ.

You should be JUST fine making the 5pm from Red Hook. But if it's getting late (like 4:30) then just grab the 5:30 from CA.

If you want you can maybe swing by the GreenHouse and grab some drinks they offer some really great Happy Hour specials.
*Another fine scatterbrained production

If you have carry on only you might make the 4pm out of CA :)

I would guess you will make the 5pm RH for sure (although due to all of the road work in STT right now it will depend on the route the taxi driver takes) You will arrive about 40 mins earlier by taking the 5pm RH vs the 5:30 CA but might stress more depending on traffic.

Thanks to all for your advice!

Pia, I was hoping to do just that, carry-on only, but I was losing the battle with my kids, especially my 22 yr old daughter who packs everything she owns just to come home from college for a weekend!
