Hey, BasUR!!!!!
I forgot you'd be "all-knowing" about Memphis, too! Sorry! Hope you & your family are well. I haven't talked to you in forever! Was in your neck of the woods a few times last year for work, but across the river.

So jealous you went to watch tennis last night. Many of my friends are up there this week. Are you going to watch Roddick? How fun!

Yea...except when your coworker texts you at 5 of 6 to say "I'm awake and want coffee"...and you have the keys to the rental car. I was totally looking forward to the extra sleep.

Stupid job. Stupid Tennessee.

I should not. Tennessee, after all, is the home of St. Jusvi.

I was instructed by a local to go to The Commissary.

From their site:
The Commissary resturants have served numerous celebrities over the years. Faith Hill, Tim McGraw, Jimmy Buffet, Robert Duvall, Kathy Bates, Senator Bill Frist, The Eagles, Aerosmith, and Jack Nicklaus are just a few of the famous that have graced our doors over the years.

OK...Bill Frist is an ass, but if Jimmy's been there...it may be good enough for me

Saw the menu. Have you already eaten there? The tamales looked good. I haven't eaten there. It will be ok.

It's tonight. We were at the Butcher Shop in Germantown last night.

My pee smells like asparagus.

However, they had Estate Cruzan. I was drinking that...on the client's bill of course.

Food day in Memphis. Our stupid meetings finished up before 11 and my coworker didn't have to be to the airport until 3:30.

We went downtown. We ate at Ground Zero Blues. Morgan Freeman owns it. I don't know how anything we ate ranks next to what's supposed to be good, but this was good stuff.

Tamales:

Meat and 2. Fried Catfish, mustard greens and black eyed peas. The fish was unbelievable. Perfectly fried.

For dinner, I went to the Germantown Commissary for BBQ.

Ribs and shoulder. Beans and slaw on the side.

I really liked the ribs. I'd never had anything like them before. Piping hot, nice and fatty. They had a great smokey flavor with just enough sauce. The shoulder was OK, but nothing to write home (or to the internet) about. I liked it, but would try the chicken next time.

Sorry about my camera taking grainy pics. I don't know what's the story with that.

Isn't Ground Zero in the Peabody Place (a mall) attached to the Peabody Hotel?(Automatic Slims is right down the street 1/2 block! but I don't think they are open for lunch). Morgan Freeman has a place in Clarksdale, MS that is known for its blues music.

You had Tamales! Tamales are a huge deal in the Delta. Who would have thought? A place here where I live has been featured on Splendid Table for its tamales. Rhoda's Famous Tamales. We get them in a big coffee can.

The Germantown Commissary looked great. I just showed my husband the pictures and it has been put on our list for our next visit. We have been enlightened.

Well, I hope you had a good restaurant visit. You'll have some more options to compare for your next visit.

Safe travel home.

Next time I'll tell you about Tunica, MS (which is just south of Memphis).

One last photo:

I got to MEM at about 10:00 on Friday and knew I would not be home for hours. I was hungry and my options were Popeye's or Corky's. I chose wisely

Pulled pork and slaw, beans and a Coke.

Pork! It's what's for breakfast!

I had some great barbecue myself over the weekend, but I didn't think you wanted to drive three (maybe 2 1/2) hours to Middle Tennessee to get it. But I'm still having dreams about the chicken, ribs and pork shoulder. And the cornbread. Yay, cornbread!
