I haven't rented yet either, but I did post a similar question a few weeks ago and got a few replies... might be helpful info.

Also, if you do a search here for "dinghy" you can find quite a bit of info (if you don't end up getting answers to all of your questions from replies to your post).

Marcia and I have done the half day rental (which we thought was long enough) and really enjoyed it. Yes, we basically putted around close to shore.

Someone on the link that SmilesfromMn sent you mentioned that the front of the dinghy rides high. That's true, but if you get to the right speed, it planes out pretty flat. As a fellow Wisconsinite (we actually have more lakes than Minnesota) I'll bet you understand what I mean about getting a boat on plane.

Anywho, it definitely is something worth doing. I do not recall the cost. I do recommend Noah's. Here's a link to some information about them: http://www.bookitvi.com/nla.htm

If you have never done the dinghy rental I would hightly recommend it. We rented from Noah's little arks right by the beach bar for a full day. We went all the way to waterlemon cay to start the snorkeling - this was the best snorkeling of our trip I wish we would have gone around the cay twice but I was too concerned about getting back into the dinghy - which was a challenge. At watermelon you have to tie to a moorings so you are getting in from the water and luckily I had two children pulling me and one husband pushing me back into the dighy - I have no upper arm strength! We then headed back stopping at almost every beach we saw, and got a close up view of the Peter Bay area. I don't know if I would do it again but I so glad we did it and for a full day.

We've done the dinghy rental twice at Noah's and it's a great time.

After about a 15 minutes tape that you watch on how to handle the dinghy.

We went to Waterlemon first both times. It can get a little choppy on the way out, so slow down and you won't be thrown around the dinghy so much.

The only thing that is really hard is getting back in the dinghy if you're a woman with no upper strength. Husband was able to pull me in by my bathing suit, but it wasn't pretty and also, it was pretty funny.

We stopped at Maho on the way back and Hawknest.

Great day, well worth it.
