I love every song on that CD, but I'm particularly fond of "Magic" for both the melody and the words.

You will love his concert. We were in vegas in 2005 and noticed that he was playing at Mandalay Bay. We decided to go down and see of we could get tickets because it was sold out. We got seats right in the front part and had a blast. They sold cruzan rum drinks and it was like a big beach party. My husband was not into KC music and he loved it. There was a big screen and they had constant video of Jost and STJ and time he spent on kis boat. OF course, we were all over the STJ pics and trying to identify where he was. I have been to many incredible concerts but his was truly one of the best if not the best.
Yall enjoy

Ron L -
The Somewhere in the Sun "album"(I THINK that's the name of it) has 2 good tracks -

On the Coast of Somewhere Beautiful
and

No Shoes, No Shirt, No Problems

There are other good songs on it, but I think those are the only "island songs" on it.

VaGirl, that's a mighty long road trip for a concert! Is he not playing anywhere closer to you?

I can relate though--John and I once diverted 400 miles off course on a cross country road trip to catch a U2 concert. In our deluded minds, it was "on the way" to our eventual destination.
It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

See, I happen to think he's a dingbat, but that's my opinion. As a Parrothead, he makes me feel icky and more than a little crabby.

Moving on...where's the house? I'm sure this has been discussed ad nauseum, but I never read it. Is it one of the monstrosities over in Peter Bay?

But, if I ever saw him on island, I'd tip my hat and order him a drink. He, at least, deserves that much.

I believe, but maybe wrong that's next to or by the Peter Bay Beach House.

I'm not a KC fan but I saw the 60 Minutes blurb.
What I came to realize is that he's a rather mediocre
singer. I also came to realize that he's a master marketer and has made a wonderful life for himself
and his organization. He seems like a wonderful person...all in all I came away from the segment
with a real good feeling about him as a person.
He brings a lot of joy to the world and I can see why
folks love him.

I'm making up for missed road trips here in these "older and wiser" years of my life! I have a group of women friends - we live all up and down the East coast and in Texas ,are all in our 40's and 50's, who get together when we can and travel to see Kenny...I think our excuse for this trip was that we really wanted to go back to Boston and spend a long weekend, so we'd just take in Kenny, too!

The "Be As You Are" album is the best....and I must admit I really have enjoyed the past couple of years at his concerts looking at all the pictures that pop up of St John, Jost, all around the islands...gives me my "fix" when I have to wait for another trip back.

Peterb, there is a lot to be said about marketing, my friend. The other mediocre singer that made it big because of his marketing degree is Garth Brooks. I just happen to like them both....I went to the KC concert last year when he came to Dallas, puts on a real good show! Going to Buffett's concert here in April....Parrot Heads Unite!!

JMHO,

VaGirl,
I am glad I'm not the only one road tripping it to see him. We are also a group of women going to a "not so close(Tampa)concert location" (from Lexington, Ky). My husband was teasing me with "why don't you all just go see him in Cincinnati?" Of course he was the one to pull the trigger on our plane tickets :D I can't wait!! (We will probably catch the Cincy. one too . . . it's not until mid August, though. )

CariBert, I agree and I mean no offense
to KC fans. In my own backhanded way I
was trying to say that I was very impressed
with him after the 60 minutes segment.

Anyone who can make that much money by making
people happy and then be generous to the folks
who helped him is WAY alright in my book. There
are a ton of other "singers" out there who are
no better than KC who've made it and who make it all
about themselve with never a thought for the people
who helped them get there. Kenney seems quite
appreciative and generous from what I saw.

The world can use a lot more Kennys and a lot
fewer Britneys as far as I'm concerned.

Hey Marcia,

I know you are a Dem but did you see me with President Bush today? He was with us from 11:00 a.m. until about 3:00 p.m. promoting affordable health insurance for Small Business Owners. He toured our Medical Center and saw a demonstration of some new state of the art robotic equipment that is used in stroke patients to prevent paralysis. Later he ate Barbecue Ribs at a local restaurant. Ironic. I certainly have a few more stories to tell about GWB but because of security issues, I'll share them later.

Oh and thanks to all of you for the nice comments regarding the piece on 60 minutes. I'll see what else I can think of to get things stirred up here.
