How did you get "here"?
We haven't done this in a while.
1.How did you find St. John?
2.How did you find the forum?

We went to a friend's wedding at Caneel in 2004 and from the moment we boarded the boat in CA, we were hooked. We split our honeymoon between STJ and a yacht charter in the BVIs and came back for a pre-baby vacation when my wife was pregnant.
We are now headed back in 8 days bringing our almost 2 yr old son with us for his first of (what we hope is) many trips. We are also bringing down my best friend and his new fiancee and trying to convince them to get married on island.
Early December seems like a perfect time to get married on St John, right? Keep in mind, I have no interest in where they get married, as long as they are happy, right? right?

1. Long story short, old friend lived on island, I was single and went to visit, fell in love with the island and with the friend. 3 months later I was moved into my little apt in Chocolate Hole
2.I want to say I was here from the beginning, under a different name back when I was on island and on the AOL board.

1. We had been planning a trip to Bermuda but it got hit by a big hurricane a couple of weeks before our trip. The hotel we were going to stay in was destroyed. We needed to find a warm place that you did not need a passport for because John's was expired. A relative that used to have a time share on STJ suggested we check the island out. We have not been back to Bermuda since.
2. You know, I don't remember! Isn't that awful? I know I started posting sometime after that first trip in October 2003 and before our second one in the summer of 2004, because we got a lot of good advice that made our second trip even better. We were really clueless on that first trip!
I also recall that the old version of this forum was a lot pricklier than its current version! I still remember getting bad feedback on my very first trip report because I did not have enough paragraph spacings or something like that.

It's like looking in your soup and finding a whole different alphabet.

I believe was looking for a different kind of trip rather than the usual all inclusive ones we always did. We had done a couple of trips to St Maarten & enjoyed the freedom or not having to be ready to go to dinner at a certain time & always hoping we ( read me
) would find something to eat at the resort restraunts.
So I started looking into Hawaii, as that is where we went for our honeymoon a million years ago
really, it was a long, long time ago & we always said we would go back, well one web site lead me to another & before I knew it I was stumbled upon St John.
Can't remember how I found the forum, but we are so glad we did. It has become a second family.
So now we are off another adventure that we have always dreamed of but are having a hart time knowing that we will not be making a May trip

Jan 2000: We were on a Caribbean cruise. Last stop was in St Thomas. We didn't want to be there because St Thomas struck us as awful. Some people at breakfast told us we HAD to go get a cab to some Red Hook place, get a ferry and go to this St John place.
Whatever.
We went. We had about 3 hours on island. Went to Cinnamon Bay. We found the island to be cute.
We got split up on the ferry and my wife met a couple from NJ who was (and who would ever do something as idiotic as this???) renting a villa on St John. The idea stuck in her head.
2003: We have enough FF miles to go somewhere. Wife suggests we try that St John place. I obsess. I find this place. I meet other like-minded oddballs. I must say, though, I got all my "good" info back in 2003 from another board (not that one..another one). You guys struck me as a little too weird at first.
Clearly, that's no longer a problem.

A year ago husband and I started planning a trip to Bora Bora. We were gonna spend a week on a sailboat, and about four days in one of those over the water bungalows on Bora Bora and Huahine...
I was about a week away from booking it when things happened here at home, and we decided we didn't want to be on the other side of the world for three weeks.
We decided to make it a family trip, and our two grown daughters are coming along.
I remembered wanting to go to St. John a long long time ago but we never made it.
Googled around to find a forum, because everything I do I find a forum first!
Made a post here and now I'm hooked reading this damn thing every day.

We made our first visit to the Caribbean in 1995 and spent a week on Tortola. We kept looking over at that beautiful, lush little island to the southwest and said to ourselves "I want to be there!" A year later we were, and we fell in love with St. John...

My husband and I and another couple have vacationed together in the Caribbean nearly every winter since 2003. While in St. Thomas ('03) we took a day trip to St. John, driving around trying to find a good snorkeling spot. The winds made it impossible so we just drove around, up the east end and back, then had lunch in Mongoose Junction before taking the car ferry back. None of us were terribly impressed at the time. But in 2007, while looking for our '08 winter getaway, St. John was on the list and, after much research, made it to the top.
As for the forum, I used the Travel Talk On Line forum to plan our 2006 trip to St. Maarten; when St. John was our next destination, I sought out a STJ forum and... you know the rest.

1. We had a destination wedding at an all-inclusive in the Dominican. I knew after the week with 40 people in a huge resort I would want something different for our honeymoon. Looked into a bunch of islands... St. Lucia, Tortola, St. Thomas, St. John. Found a private villa in St. John that seemed to fit. Turns out, so did the island. I knew absolutely nothing about St. John. We were like little kids on Christmas morning every day there.
2. While on the island we stopped in to St. John Kids to pick up t-shirts for our nieces. I saw the "Have I Seen You on the Forum?" t-shirt. As soon as we got home I searched for it.
