Sweet Plantains

Post by Pia »

Just wanted to let everyone know, we just got home from Sweet Plantains (a restaurant in Coral Bay for the "newbies" here that might not know  ) and wanted to let everyone know we had a fantastic meal - one of the best ever. If you are looking for a great meal and beautiful atmosphere do try them - wonderful :)

It is definitely on my list for June. We tried to go in August and picked the ONE night they were closed. Major bummer. Is it June yet?

We dined out 7 of the 9 evenings we were on-island in January, and the meal we had at Sweet Plantains was IMHO, the best of them all...

I hope they are open this year when we go. We've moved the trip out a week later into November (so as not to miss Halloween!) and maybe we'll get lucky this year. We were there once and really loved the place.

The budget will only hold one special dinner this year (20th Anniv) so I've gotta make it good. Sweet Plantains caught me eye early on and we're staying in Coral Bay so it was lining up pretty well for me. Killer menue, Rum Flights, etc.

I've been reading the recent comments/reviews on restaurants and while they've naturally focused on the Cruz Bay area, I've been disappointed that Sweet Plantains hadn't been mentioned much, if at all.

THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU, THANK-YOU for this thread!

Like they say...go with your gut.

dave, make sure you make a reservation and ask for a table inside, where the atmosphere is breezy and seductive...
outside's nice, but inside's nicer.

and do try the tostones. fortunately there is now a place here in Boston that makes great tostones but i would love to have some of Rose's curried crap spread to go with them.

Sweet Plantains is my favorite I remember when Rose and Prince opened and going there.
They have only gotten better. Rose and Prince are such a wondeful couple who deserve much success and they cook with love, that is the most important ingriedient.

Hmmmm... I'm not so sure I like the idea of curried crap. You'd have to add a LOT of curry!

Our experience there was not so good - we won't go back. I'm glad so many of you do like it though. We always felt comfortable and welcome at Shipwreck Landing (our favorite place).

curried crab of course...☺

In Boston, Orinoco, in the South End, and newly on Harvard St in Brookline, makes great tostones, as well as other wonderful things like arepas and datiles.
