An October 29th Birthday Celebration!

Post by beachplums »

Room for one more? I recently stumbled across this forum (thanks localsailor!) and it sounds like this is a fun group of people here. I know it's early to start planning my b-day on STJ (thanks, hubby for this gift) but I'm so excited and with your help, I know it will be a memorable one. Because it's so close to Halloween, I know there must be lots of celebrating on island during this time. We plan to be in a villa on the Coral Bay side. So, to those who have been during this time, we would love to hear of your experiences.
Thanks, beachplums.

Halloween is our favorite time and usually a lot of forum folks are on islands. Skinny Legs in Coral Bay has a Halloween party. It's usually the Saturday closest to Halloween, but check before you go. Cruz Bay has a ton of stuff going one: Trick or treating at Mongoose Junction in the afternoon, early costume contest at Morgan's Mango and later (more raucus) contest at The Beach Bar, usually with live music.

We're not booked yet, but I would be surprised if we were not there.

Fun!!!

Cheers, RickG

Hello birthday buddy

Pretty much all the bars on STJ have a costume party and you really can't go wrong with any of them. We actually did an overnight trip to Jost (stayed at the Perfect Pineapple)and spent my birthday at Foxy's Halloween Party. It was awesome!!

If you have more specific questions, just let me know.

Thanks, traveler22, for the welcome!

RickG, great information...sounds like this is a FUN time to be on STJ. (husband is known for the outrageous costumes he fabricates. I'm a bit more tame)

Bug, same B-Day...how COOL it that! Yes, I'll have plenty more questions as things progress.

Right now I'm just enjoying going back in time reading the many hilarious adventures and posts by all you REGULARS!

And a big shout-out to Maggy of the infamous "SOTB GANG". I have family in the Timmernabben/Hogsby area and spent some wonderful summers in your beautiful Sweden!

October is a nice time to be on island. The water is calm, which makes for great visibility while snorkeling. It's a little breezier than the summer, so hiking is more pleasurable. Some of the restaurants will be closed. The beaches will be pretty empty. Most of the beach pictures I have from October trips have no one in the photos.

Welcome to the forum!

Hi Marcia(Mrs.Pete)...another almost Halloween Babe.

Feel free to "hijack away"! Haven't a clue what you and Bug are talking about..."the shoe thing??"...but I'm sure there is a hilarious story behind it.

Hi liamsaunt,

This will be our first time visiting in the off-season. I can see you are the "go-to" person when it comes to food/dining. You must have enjoyed eating at every STJ restaurant last week. How LUCKY are you!!

Hey beachplums, most of the gals from SOTB II are returning for SOTB III (10/30 - 11/7, and that includes Maggy). We're staying on the Coral Bay side too. So, we'll surely be around to help you celebrate your big day (slightly belated) (and Halloween too). See you on island. Ali~

Hey there, beachplums. Welcome aboard!
Our last trip to STJ was again overlooking Coral Bay in a villa called Island Horizons. It was gorgeous.
We were there during Halloween, and spent the night drinking & dancing at Skinny Legs. It was the best! Check out Skinny Legs' website, and you'll get the gist. Lots of great costumes, and a man dressed like Sarah Palin won the contest. He was awesome!
It was my 2nd stay in Coral Bay out of 9 trips, and we plan on renting the villa Sago Palms which is a little closer to the center of the island, if I'm not mistaken, over Halloween for hopefully 2 weeks.
you're going to love how close and convenient the stores, bars, & restaurant are, as well as not being too far from the beaches. It's quiet, and very relaxing. We met quite a few locals, and as usual, everyone just couldn't have been nicer.Especially our forum friend Pia, who found me on Maho. She's as lovely as she is helpful.
All that said, welcome again, and ask away if there's anything I can help you with!

October on St. John

Post by cool breeze »

Hello friends on St. John I have just joined this forum and hope to establish some comraderie with visitors to the Island. My wife and I have recently visited this jewel of the Caribbean this past October and being our second trip fall more in love with the Island on each visit. We are returning this upcoming October and god willing will do so each year there after. We stay in a beautiful Villa located in the Great Cruz Bay/ Chocolate Hole area and absolutely love the environment. I had said to my wife that it is easy to fall in love with "Island life". The people on St. John are some of the friendliest people we have ever met. I had just read the post on the October 29th Birthday and would just like to add our 2 trips in October were wonderful, weather was near perfect and beaches were fantastic. I realize this is off season but there is still a fair amount of visitors on the Island. We love Skinny Legs for the best Burger in the Caribbean and Zozo's restaurant is fantastic. Well hope to establish some contacts and appreciate the forum to express appriciation to the people of St. John
enjoy the rest of the day

Cool breeze-
Come on in! The water's fine!
How could we not have met?!
Aahhh, like 2 ships passing in the night!(LOL)
This year we should all plan to get together during our corresponding vacations over Halloween. The forum met at the Beach bar last fall, and I missed it by a day. Bummer.
Anyway, welcome, and

MJ, thanks for the reply. I agree that would great to meet new friends this coming trip. Will definately stay in touch. We are bringing a couple with us this trip who will be first timers, so to parlay into meeting new friends as well will definately "hook" them with the love of the Island. Your reference to "2 ships passing in the night" is very ironic since 1 week ago my wife and I saw Barry Manilow in concert. "Ships" one of my favorit songs! :P

Good to meet you.
