The cover is Trunk Bay and there is no island (cay) and no little house. Also no lifeguard stand. I tried to find a picture of the cover on line but couldn't. Why would they photoshop those out? There are only 2 people on the beah also. Did anyone see it?
It is a beautiful picture, just not realistic.

I saw it too and wondered the same thing. I think the island is missing because of the angle of the shot, but where is the little house? My husband and I have been on Trunk Bay early in the morning and have been the only ones on it - pure heaven!

Question:
Did they erase the cay?
If so, why?
Does the cay (the location of the underwater trail and #1 attraction at the beach) somehow take away from the headline?

This irks me and I'd like an answer before I do something rash like scowl at my magazine again

Of course we haven't seen it here yet, since the February issue is still the one on the magazine racks. Would one of you care to take a photo of the offending cover?

The only thing I can think is that they've had Trunk Bay on the cover so many times, they were trying to make it less recognizable. Stupid.
Not quite as weird as the Travelocity magazine ad in which the left side of the picture is three of Dana's horses and the Travelocity garden gnome on Gibney, and the right side is one of those South Pacific hotels with the thatched huts on stilts in the water. Pretty soon they really won't need to go on location.
(VI tourism ads being filmed at Annaberg this week, with baskets of flowers brought in for more "color!')

If you buy the rights to use a photo, you usually get some creative license. That being said, it's slightly irresponsible from a journalistic perspective and it looks ridiculous in this case. Why would someone take a picture of the most photographed beach in the world and photoshop it. Of course, people will notice.

I have stared at it to see if they could've taken it at an angle and missed the cay, but that really doesn't explain the way the beach looks. From the landscape it is clearly Trunk, but only two people and no lifeguard stands?

P.S. going back and looking at it from the perspective of someone who designs magazines, I'm guessing they removed the cay because the text didn't work over top of it. This is just me playing arm-chair quarterback, but professionally that makes the most sense.

Why not just use a different picture if the one you had didn't meet what you were looking for?

That's definitely the same image, but weirdly enough, he had already removed the ranger house-- CTL just removed the cay, the end of Whistling, and the very tip of Trunk Point. I think everyone should write irate letters. No liberties with our landscapes!
