Bringing Newbies
Bringing Newbies
Hubby and I have our favorite things to do, as I am sure you guys do too, but what things would you absolutely make sure to do with some newbies? We're going down with a couple that have never been and, while we've had tons of ideas flowing of what to do with them, I am just curious to see what would top your list.

1. I think a charter day to the BVI's with friends is a "Must Do" and Awesome!
2. Beach bar, Woody's,Skinny Legs, Shipwreck, Rum Hut
Sun Dog
Other than just to get a drinks, I think these places get you in the island flow and you can sit back meet people and WATCH the relaxing Island Way of life where everyone's a friend or it seems that way to me

It is funny I have talked people into going to STJ and they end up taking a trip without me.
I talked it up for Lulu so much she has now gone twice and has already planned her 3rd trip.
My friend Chris went with her bro last jan since I could not go and then went with all of us this last Nov
1. take them to see kenny at quiet mon
2. take them to the beach and just be
3.TELL them to greet before they ask....good morning, good afternoon, night night
4. go out on the water with Captn Phil or John Brandi.
Like X said, do not do everything together.......not everyone gets St. John.....surprising to me but oh well do not want that little island to get an attitude.....lol

Perhaps we'll send them to do a BVI day trip. He came with us to our wedding in Tortola and did an all day "booze cruise" with us the day after - she hasn't been down there at all though. My hubby and I are bringing our daughter who will be 10 months at the time - so it will be hard to do a day trip with them.
Thinking of possibly taking a couple newbies this year myself. My fear is that they would be bored. Crazy, I know. But they're very active and "ADD" when it comes to vacations. Can't just sit still, which is one of my favorite things to do on the island.
I'd hate for them harsh my mellow. But worse, I'd hate for people to not have a good time. I would feel so guilty for bringing them somewhere they wouldn't enjoy fully.
But in this case, I would definitely get 2 cars. That would be #1 of the list of must-dos.

We made that mistake once and will not again. We really thought that we would both enjoy the same things and we did not. I didn't think we would need a 2nd car and I was very very wrong!sasky wrote:Thinking of possibly taking a couple newbies this year myself. My fear is that they would be bored. Crazy, I know. We are doing the same thing. We are bringing newbies but we are bringing our 22 month old son, so we are going to have to be more on a schedule than they are...hopefully it will work out.Adrienne wrote:Perhaps we'll send them to do a BVI day trip. We are selfishly trying to convince our friends to get married on St. John....nothing like getting another trip in the calendar for a great purpose

My wife and I are taken 6, count them SIX newbies down in June. I'm trying to avoid a long list of "must-dos" because this is going to be its own vacation and I don't want it to seem like they're just tagging along on MY vacation. So I plan on doing as little planning as possible. However, my list would have to include:
1. Beverages at Beach Bar
2. Day sail, BVI or just around STJ
3. Hike the Reef Bay Trail and ruins.
I've noticed Beach Bar and sail trips are consistently making the lists on here. Tribute to those ideas.

We head down next week also with 6 sort of newbies (they were on St John on a day trip from a cruise). We are going to start by hitting the Beach Bar and Woodys to get in the island frame of mind.
We have Born to Rhumb rented for a day to head over to the BVI's for a day. Other than that, no plans. They seem to be content with a slow pace, relaxation and plenty of alcohol consumption. But I am worried since they are sort of expecting us to be the tour guides.

Hit Caps for a few cheap n chilly beers as soon as you get off of the ferry!
Check out Uncle Joe's bbq
Hit the Gecko Gazebo in Mongoose for some Casablanca styled atmosphere and adult beverages
Trunk, and of course, Maho
You can never go wrong with a burger from Skinny's, or a Johnny cake from Hercules
Just a few thoughts!
