Italy Day 8

Post by waterguy »

Italy Trip Day 8
We have tickets for the Uffizi and Accademia today but they aren't till afternoon. So today is what I will call the forced march day.LOL So we head out going to the market to get the thing we should of picked up yesterday they aren't open on Sundays. Next to the Santa Maria Novella Church we get there and mass is going on.

So it is on to the next thing we take the long way to walk down by the river wandering around on the list the Bargello museum it is closed the first Sunday of the month.

So we head back to the
Duomo to go thru the Baptistery They built this build just for baptisms Is kind of unreal the ceiling is just outstanding.

I say I need a beer if this is going to keep up we find a bar that is open I have a local beer and Kathy has a coffee it has to be noon somewhere right.

So I have to get my god daughters something I told them I'd pick up their Christmas presents in Italy so we head to the outside market looking for Italian made leather purses and belts for my 2 boy's go from one dealer to the next trying to get the best deal when I find these purses that are triangle in shape the shoulder strap zips apart to turn it into a backpack cool. Well as the haggling starts Kathleen is admiring a red leather carryon bag with separate storage for your shoes. I never need that but she seems impressed. So I tell her if she really wants it her birthday is the next week and I'll get it for her Big smile comes across from her now I have to haggle on another item. Get them all bought and we look at the time. We're getting close to our first ticket time but I don't want to drag these bags into the museums. So we take off back to the hotel. Get there drop everything off.

Head back to the other side of town to Uffizi another great museum Today's tip buy your tickets on line and you get to skip the line and go right in. You can't take pictures in here but Kathy took this one of the Ponte Vecchio Bridge from a second story window that I use as my screen saver now.

We leave there and head to the Accademia to see David. On the way there we are talking about grabbing something to eat we just keep walking by deli after deli I'm waiting for her to pick a place and she is waiting for me we get there about a hour before our ticket time but they let us in anyway skipping the line for tickets again David is one big naked dude.LOL How anyone could sculpt these is beyond me I have a hard time drawing stick figures.

We head back to the hotel to take it easy for a little while before we head to dinner. We go to a seafood place on Feanza It think it was called something like the lobster pot It was out of this world we had the bucket of shell fish for an antipasti Kathy had some type of fish in a bag I had fettuccine dish with all kinds of seafood in it. Our liter of wine I don't know what we are going to do when we get home and don't drink a liter of wine with every meal. All they house wines where great.

No, Waterguy...we checked the purchases at the Uffizzi and then beat it back to the hotel before racing to the Accademia...don't you remember?? That was a forced march, for sure! You are the best (and most patient) travel partner yet. Thank you. XX

Wow Tom you found some great eating spots. I don't know that side of town enough at all - we need to explore more over there!

Now I am sure my Mom and I probably weren't even in Florence :? because we didn't see a quarter of what you have covered already. Thanks so much Tom.

Your trip reports take me back! We only spent one day in Florence and it was very similar to what you mentioned. The market was something else. I keep telling people Italy is the most relaxing place ever because of all the wine you drink!

Thank you so much for taking the time to do these reports!
