Really! This thread is meant to stop that kind of post. What's the matter with you Dave? Sheesh!Maryanne wrote:oh, please.DaveS007 wrote:We conservatives continue to support the advertisers on this site !! We stimulate the economy, as much or more as the next guy actually. Sad really. Bailout? I think so. Sound familiar? Yea.
Thank you Anthony... There are obviously some on here who need looking after.

Surprisingly, I actually think Dave has a point. I'm sure you are all shocked...I have supported advertisers on this site...More important than that though, like everyone here who loves St. John (that would be all of us), there isn't usually a day that goes by that I'm not talking to someone about the island (usually someone who's never been)...If you think I'm passionate about my "right-wing views", you should hear me talk about St. John.
My point is that the very FIRST bit of advice I give to anyone thinking of going to STJ, is to go and take a look at this website. I couldn't count the number of people I have sent this way, only because I think it is the BEST place on the Internet for all things STJ.
I always think it's sad when there are limits placed on the content of discourse. And CG, it is very true that as we sit here today, people like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are under seige by people on the left who would like them silenced (not violently, of course - but through this "petition")...So please, with the utmost repect to you...Please forgive some of us conservatives if we feel that we are being marginalized in the current political debate.
I thought "one nation" meant that all viewpoints are to be heard...I really didn't think that it meant we all had to have the SAME point of view.
As outspoken as the left has been for the last 8 years (and in most cases disrespectful and downright mean), nobody ever tried to silence them.
Remember, it is patriotic to voice dissent. That was what we were told.
You run a GREAT site here, Anthony. But all this decision does is satisfy those who cannot stand the weight of the defense of their own ideals.

Sox, I wasn't ragging on Dave for his views... just for the fact that Anthony posted this thread to bring all the arguing to a halt. IMHO this is not a thread to start it all up again. I, personally, don't care who's a conservative or who's a liberal and I think everyone's entitled to equal time. This is just not the place for it, that's all.
By the way, for what it's worth, I watch Hannity, hate Rush.

Are you serious???!!! Ann Coulter's sister is married to Alan Combs????SJfromNJ wrote:I preferred Hannity & Combs. That is some strange Thanksgiving dinner table!!
Sorry, I just had to ask. I'll be quiet from now on.

Absolutely...I've been telling my wife the same thing since Colmes left...Hannity's show is too much, even for me. Although, he usually does have a pretty balanced panel on. Even on the radio, I've grown tired of Hannity a bit...It's the same rantings everyday (I know what some here are thinking right now)...But seriously...For all his falts, Rush at least brings new things to the table, all through his conservative prism, of course.SJfromNJ wrote:I preferred Hannity & Combs. Yeah, and an even stranger one...Mary Matalin and James Carville (The Ragin' Cajun!) are married. Polar opposites politically. In 1992, Matalin served as deputy campaign manager for George Bush 41, while dating James Carville who was running Bill Clinton's campaign. They are now married (have been for some time) and are living in Louisiana.cypressgirl wrote:Are you serious???!!! I also feel that that this is being done to quiet the conservative view. I think this would be handled very differently if we were debating our favorite Michelle Obama dress. But because the debate includes the conservative view it not acceptable.DaveS007 wrote:We conservatives continue to support the advertisers on this site !! I am really disappointed by the complete lack of tolerance for someone with a different view. I am also frustrated with someone getting a pass just because you agree with their point of view . . . even when that person also is calling someone names and also intends to offend and inflame. But, I guess, because that person supports a more popular view they get a pass.
This post does not contain anything political. I am just trying to understand the different reactions to the same behavior. Well, unfortunately, I do understand and find it really disappointing.
Not that Anthony needs defending, but I don't think he in any way is trying to squash any views - left or right - but more to raise the level of discourse.Anthony wrote:I know this is just my own tub of hot water to step in - but - what I was trying to say (meaning it doesn't just apply to politics but that topic was easy to point out) is that you don't post things in general that are just posted to get a rise out of others who you already know don't agree with you. That is trolling - and it just seemed like that has increased over here.
I regret that my own tone was lowered to the level it was and even more sorry that Anthony felt he had to step in. I think at issue is presentation of differences, not those differences themselves. There have been very clear examples of completely opposing viewpoints being expressed in a respectful manner, and then there have been examples of that not so much at all happening. Myself included. Feeling justified is not an excuse, though perhaps in the heat of the moment I thought it was. I owed it to Anthony and the forum family to avoid the ditch.
At any time you can take a look at all posts by any forum member. I took a look through my own, to get some perspective, and I would guess over 95% are positive and not in any way related to politics or controversial topics of any kind. Still, I regret my part in the ugliness. It brought out the qualities in myself that I least like in others. I see that.
The way I have managed to keep from saying something I would regret is by only reading those threads originated by those I knew to be conservative.
Long before the last election Bush- bashing on the forum was common. It was annoying, but I tried to ignore it. So now the "shoe" is on the other foot. Obama is in the White House and he WILL be criticized. It comes with the job. Time to toughen up.
I will admit that I find the debate entertaining even though I don't usually participate.

Anthony, very politely, was asking all of us to shut the fuck up already about the politics. He wasn't trying to "silence the conservative voice."
There are plenty of places on the internet where the conservatives can find their voices, as well as the liberals.
Not here, is the point.
