Top of the Mornin' to everyone-
I've never been to Vie's on our past trips but I've read a bunch about it/her on the board and I'm intrigued. Specifically, we are bringing our almost 2 year old son and it seems like he will really enjoy the animals that usually can be found there so it sounds like it may be a worthwhile destination for lunch/ beach.
So, can someone enlighten me....Vie's is a snack shop/grill that has a private beach adjacent to it....is that correct? Do you need to eat there in order to access the beach? Any other knowledge that would be helpful?
Finally, in order to avoid sounding like a fool, is Vie's pronounced "Vees" or does it rhyme with "ties".

Vie's (like Ties) and she goes by Miss Vie thankyouverymuch is a glorified shack from hence great things flow including garlic fried chicken, johnny cakes, conch fritters, peas & rice, coconut or pineapple tart and the like.
Drinks include iced tea, canned sodas and a handful of beers.
The menu is limited to what she wants to serve that day but generally the items I listed above are it.
She has a couple of comfortable picnic tables under the tree and lots of chickens and the occasional cat wandering the yard. Goats across the road are also frequent guests.
Her place is on one side of the road (immediately after you get to the tree in the middle of the road) and if you cross the road you get to her beach at Hansen bay.
Whether you eat there or not you have to pay the $2 (I think it's still $2) to access the beach.
She's closed Sunday and Monday but she can occasionally be closed other days too depending on how busy she is so if you're making a special trip its best to call first: 340-693-5033.
As far as I am concerned it's not atrip to STJ without a visit to visit to Miss Vies.

Vies rhymes with ties. It's a good family place. It has a set menu with several items, not so much a grill with lots of choices. Her food is excellent. It's a fun place to go. Be sure to remember your "Good Day" island manners. We did, and she was very friendly to us. There were however some people there who were impatient and unfriendly and demanding, and she was very stern and rude to them.( It was well deserved) If she's not there, the beach is not open. However, you don't have to eat there to go to the beach. There is a separate beach admission price. Excellent beach with chairs provided, good shade and good snorkling. You do however walk through a graveyard and some rather "cluttered" property to get to the beach. But once at the beach, that is all behind you and not an eyesore.

Vie's (pronounced like ties) is a great place for folks of any age. Your 2yr old will get a kick out of the chickens and goats and cats and whatever else is hanging around.
I think it costs $5 to use her beach regardless of whether or not you eat there. BUT, I'm not 100% sure.
She is closed on Sunday & Monday, so plan accordingly. She is so lovely; it is so worth the drive out to her place!!! Her coconut & pineapple tarts are the best!!!!

Does she run out of food often? The day we went she did.
But it was an odd day, the whole island was out of power. Plus the north shore was out of control with huge waves, so more people there than usual maybe?
Just didn't know if we should order earlier in the future. Or if it was just a strange day out of her control. She was out of almost everything and we starved....

My husband and I cannot wait to meet Miss Vie on this trip. I'm definitely looking forward to the garlic chicken! YUMMO!

I'm thinking that photo is from Miss Lucy's -- although they've got heavier iron chairs there now.

I think it's $2.50 to get in. Someone posted a picture of her sign recently.
The beach is wonderful. I haven't been there when she was there, so I didn't get any food, but everyone raves. I hear there is good snorkeling, but I don't snorkel.
As far as animals, did anyone mention that area is donkey heaven?

Also, your 2 yr old might appreciate the birds there. Miss Vie has a great bird feeder by her picnic table that she will fill with honey if you ask (and she's not busy) and the banaquits will flock. Its cool to watch.
I always go later than the regular lunch hour to avoid the crowds, and she has never been out of food. Also, when she isn't busy and has time to chat with you, that's the most fun!
