Oprah to develop theme park on St. John?

A place for members to talk about things outside of Virgin Islands travel.

The latest is that the project appears to be hanging on whether or not personal watercraft (SeaDoos) will be able to be rented at the park's marina.

Money talks so I think this is only a temporary setback..

Where in the hell does the gondola go? If it goes to one of the tall hills that would rule because hiking is such a PITA..

That is scandalist. It is suspicious. I guess no one knows what they would do is a state of panic . . . it sure doesn't seem like a normal reaction.

apparently there is a lobby of cruise companies that are very hot on this topic--(this was in a cruise business white paper) they are advocating for a large dock at the maho property (undoing at least part of the conservation efforts that have gone on to preserve this area) for anchorages and watersports ( especially the availability of see doos, but also parasailing and perhaps race boat rides?) (so this woudl pretty much impact the whole of little maho with lots of overspill into francis and big maho) it's outrageous to say the least--but the oprah factor __and particulary the circumstances surrounding the drowning apparently have muddied the waters a bit.
Joshie, you seem to have the inside scoop...what;s the news?

Wow, this whole topic is so Not Funny to me.
I am pretty sure that Oprah is not a part of St. John's celebrity culture and I have no idea why anyone would suggest that she might be.
Am I missing something here?

It would seem to me that some wealthy folks are taking advantage of the poor economy.

I will be dissapointed if Oprah has any money invested in St. John. That sends a clear message that her Africa missions don't mean that much to her.

Sorry, Oprah...you were a hero...but you down graded yourself. You can do better. What about the American education situation?

This is a good April fools joke, just a bit early!

I found Oprah in St. Thomas!!

This is the description from jpwopp on a 2006 cruise:

That crazy rastafarian is still in St.Thomas with his donkey "Oprah".

Could this be the Oprah that Joshie speaks of??

Count me confused too. I thought it was a joke but now it is sounding more serious. I did a google search and only found the donkey so . . . I think we have been punked.

Gee,Ruth, I heard that Oprah and Kenny Chesney were getting hitched and they were going to have old blue thrones installed in the recently purchased Monstrosity House on Peter Bay and they were really going to do the zip-thing from Cruz Bay. Oh, yeah, and in the spirit of change, Oprah's keeping her name but Kenny will be officially taking her last name. Also, there's a confirmed rumour from a day sail captain from the Coral Bay Yacht Club that she's planning on opening a bar targeting Skinny Legs and it will be called Fat Thighs.
When you find yourself in a hole.... quit digging.
