Anybody Pay $4 for a Beach Bar Painkiller Recently?

Post by Teresa_Rae »

See: http://travel.nytimes.com/2009/01/25/tr ... lands.html

According to the New York Times the Beach Bar charges $4 for a Painkiller.

We paid $8 in June, which I think is pricey. A friend who was a newbie to STJ was mistaken by a bartender and paid the local price which was $6 I think.

I can't remember what we've paid in years past, but I was surprised to be charged $8.

This was at night, so maybe they charge less around lunch time?

When we were there in October, 4.00 was the happy hour price. I even ordered a Lime n Coconut and the bartender said, if you get that it'll be 8.00, but if you like pain killers they are only 4 during happy hour. We drank pain killers!

Well that explains it. We’re usually still at the beach during happy hour. I just don’t see the sense in leaving the beach to save a couple bucks on drinks when we’ve spent thousands of dollars on plane tickets, villa and car rentals to get to said beach.

The article should have mentioned that it was happy hour pricing since it said that Aqua Bistro’s prices were decent at lunch time. I wonder how many people will show up at the Beach Bar during non-happy hour asking for $4 Painkillers? :)

That doesn't seem to make too much of a "Happy Hour" for someone on a budget...
Did you try Woody's, or Larry's Landing?
I usually just make them at the villa, and hit Caps for more than 1, or 5, chilly beers @ $1.50. or so...
Heck, after a few cups of fun I'm not too frugal anyway!

I make my painkillers by the gallon jug (there's a recipe around here somewhere) and keep them at the villa. I have gotten them at the Beach Bar, and I think they were $6 except during happy hour, then they were $4. I usually get Lime & Coconuts, which are unfortunately always $8.
