Rapture villa St John

Post by island girl »

We have rented the Rapture Villa in St John this July. Has anyone stayed there...what did you think? How well stocked is the kitchen...or do we need to bring our own salt, pepper, spices, oil, sugar...etc. We plan on buying groceries....how expensive is it? Do you also recommend we get travel insurance? How is the beach at the Westin Resort? What are the popular resturants? I also have teenagers...is there alot for them to do there and is it safe?.
Thanks[/i][/b]

Welcome to the board. There is a lot of great information here. Have you tried the search feature. It will help you find detailed information on all the questions you pose.

I'll take a shot at a few. Staples in the Villa. Its variable. Some are very well stocked some are not. Try contacting the company from which you rented to ask. Groceries are expensive. Try a search request for "grocery list" or shopping list" I know others have posted the actual prices. There are three markets. Starfish the largest and most comprehensive and the one which will look most like what you used to at home. Consequently its the most expensive. The other two are Peace Pine, small local amrket good and less expensive for staples and booze and Dolphin Market somewhere in the middle.

Under the ST John banner above you will find resturant reviews.

As for safety, I'm from NYC so it feels very safe to me. Use your judgment. I wouldn't let the kids wander around alone at night, but that's my personal preference, others will have different ideas. Drinking age is 18.

As for the Westin Beach, its a man made beach with an active mooring field and Im not sure what the discharge rules are. There are many beautiful other beaches.

Welcome to the forum! I wouldn't waste any time with the beach at the Westin unless you're into the water toys they provide. There are so many gorgeous beaches on St. John that the Westin beach pales in comparison!

I always recommend travel insurance... you just never know what can happen. There is a link/ad at the left of this page for CSA, and many people on this forum recommend them highly.

Although St. John is pretty safe, I wouldn't let my teenagers wander around alone at night... period! :D
