Need Help - Surprise 50th Birthday Party for Hubby - Need..

Post by Jo Ann - VA »

I need suggestions on the wording for the invitations for a surprise 50th birthday party for my husband.
It will be about 50 people.
It will be causual.
Food will be simple - pork BBQ & hot dogs, finger foods etc.
Music will be from the 70's - Doobie Bros, ELO, CCR, Eagles etc.

I need help with the wording of the invitations! I'd like it to be something funny. I seem to have mental block going on. These are my husbands interests:
Hunting
Golf
Fishing
Carpentry work in his spare time
Beer
St John
Kayaking

Can anyone come up with any funny ideas for the wording of the invitation? It won't hurt his feelings to mention 'he's over the hill' kind of things. I suck at writing this stuff!

Thanks!

My husband threw me the most awesome 50th party!! He actually mailed everyone a Corona bottle with an invitation rolled up inside. On the outside of the box he had a baby picture of me saying, "HOLY S--T! I can't believe I'm 50!" Everyone said it was the best invitation they ever got!! And it was a luau theme so he asked every one to come in their best island attire...AWESOME!!

is there any theme (other than 50?) or is it a simple casual party with music 'of a certain age"

also, indoors? outdoors? can you say anything else about it?

loria - It will be a casual party with a dj playing 70's music.
It will be indoors at a place that will hold about 125 people.

I plan on blowing up lots of pictures of him from a baby on up and hanging them around the room. There is a great one of him about 2 years old sitting on the potty - he is going to kill me!!!!

I like Bevm's idea of sending the invitation in a Corona bottle but that would be too costly to send to 50 addresses.

I am just looking for cute, funny wording for the invitaions. Any ideas anyone?

Why don't you put a photo of him from the seventies and one of him today. And say something like, "Still lookin' great after all of these years!"

Or if he's doing something funny in an old photo, you can play off that. For my husband's 40th, I used a really funny picture of him as a devilish little kid, hands in prayer position, making his first communion. The invite read, "Come bless Nick on his 40th birthday."

How about using that picture of him on the toilet..

Something like:

Get off the Pot
And Join the Surprise
Gregg's turning 50
He can't believe his eyes
He's a big old fart
But doesn't act like one
Still playin with his beers and his golf and his gun.

Lets remind that old geezer
Of his advancing age
We'll dance to to the music that once was the rage

ok now I am going blank.....
"Sponges grow in the ocean...I wonder how much deeper it would be if that didn't happen."
